I took a quick look today on lunch. I found 3 elephant ears but I don't pick those. I don't know enough about them, I hear they can make you sick if you don't pick them at the right time? Last year I had one of the best years ever.

I'll have to ask the mechanic at work if he's seen any yet. He usually mentions it when he finds them. I expect they'll be around in a few days since it's about time for dogwood to bloom here and we had a couple days of good soaking rain last week.

Me, I just don't have much taste for fungus any more. I've even gotten to where I get the Italian joint to leave the mushrooms out of Penne Arrabiata when I order it.

I used to pick them too, until my first wife got a poison one and died. The second wife was sure she had good ones to eat but died too. Third wife slipped in the bath and hit her head and died. She wouldn't eat the damn mushroom I picked.

Jensen, I may make it to the Mansfield festival and car show this weekend. I'll be in a blue Monte Carlo, holler if you stop by.

My 442 is still in project hell, so no shows for it.

I am jealous - no mushrooms here. My cousin in Denver found these last year. My Mom was from the Czech Republik and mushroom picking is a popular pastime there.

Try this recipe from the old country.
Slice shrooms and sauté over medium heat in olive oil, with black pepper, salt to taste and a teaspoon of caraway seed for every two cups shrooms. When the water cooks off completely and the shrooms are golden, add a "splash" of good red wine, Bordeaux is best, and some butter, lower heat and simmer until half the fluid is gone.
Spread on fresh bread and enjoy. Drink the leftover wine.
