If you have no real talent...

make baseless accusations to cover it!

http://www.wral.com/steven-tyler-add...laim/11824956/

For a talentless biatch like Minaj to even go there... We'll see how long her name and music are remembered. I guarantee in five to seven people will say "Nicki who?" whereas 50 years later most everyone knows who Bob Dylan is. It's about staying power, my friends- not the latest musical flavor-of-the-month.

Steven Tyler is right though. Someone like Dylan wouldn't last a farting spell on a show like American Idiot, 'scuse, Idol.

I don't have to wait 50 years to say Nicki who. I don't know who she is now.

I saw Southside Johnny come on stage and play with The Beaver Brown Band at Toads Place in New Haven, CT about 20 years ago . I saw the whole band at least once by themselves too

Im 23 and do not follow my generation of music. I like 50's 60's 70's and it starts to taper of after the 70's as music became more about the now rather than the voice of a generation like elvis, dylan, joplin, thats music that is timeless. This nikki broad is just some bimbo with an image to sell and nothing to really preach. I hate pop music.

WOW! I know what you are going through with other people your age. I am the same as you. My friends always made fun of me for it. I am 38 but i still don't like much after the mid 80s. I had no idea you were only 23.

Yep it's really awkward when we have family parties or when i meet new people and you have no common becasue you are out of touch with your own generation . My friends and i listen to most of the same music but they tend to listen to alot of newer stuff . It's also awkward when you talk to someone much older and they dont take you seriosuly becasue of age. It's like alice cooper said babies brain and an old mans heart.

Where do you think Mr. Zimmy got "Dylan" from?

The number of you who don't know who Nicki Minaj is proves my point. She's a talentless street rapper (two-bit street ho, really) who thinks she has some influence because of her 15 minutes of fame. Plus she's shown that she isn't above playing the race card to discredit a well-known rock artist in order to make herself look superior. If she has to do that to prove she's somebody, then that proves beyond all doubt she's nobody. She'll be forgotten in ten years, while Aerosmith and Bob Dylan soldier on.

Guess she never saw Aerosmith's collaboration with Run-D.M.C. Wasn't my cuppa tea, but it did keep Aerosmith relevant when they were imploding, and may be what kept them going.

Besides- there's a lot of difference in crafting words and borrowing/stealing words.

I think I've seen her on a commercial once...from what I remember she is a NTAC...but then again, I'm not familiar with her noise. I listen to country, new and old. The new age crap sucks...I don't see why people keep funding these idiot's drug habits. Just say no, you don't have to buy their albums!

Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, AC/DC, Metallica, Rammstein, Iron Maiden,, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Dylan, etc. I'm 22.

Nicki Minaj was on the screen constantly in A-stan. I consider it the hardest part of being deployed.

These post's from you 20 somethings listening to something besides today's pre programmed electronic clap trap, (every note delivered in every octave on every song!, with unrivaled electronic accuracy) actually brightened my day!
But then, 'Perhaps I've grown a little cynical' (Blues Traveler, about the newest music I have heard that I still enjoy)
When you have some time you should check out some of the artist's whose music influenced Dylan, Springsteen, Skynyrd, Zepplin, AC/DC, etc. Sonny Boy Williamson, "Nine below", anything from Albert King. "Too many dirty dishes", "Gonna quit you babe"
Music is about feeling and emotion, not billion dollar babes who want to preach.

Let's be realistic here though; It truly IS time for the Geriatric road show that is the Rolling Stones to hang it up. We'll listen to your old albums guys, not watch you try to relive the past. Kind of like watching a Zombie movie!

I have to throw in Jimmy Reed, great Blues singer from the '50's. Got me started on the Blues. By the way, should you ever be close to Clarksburg, Mississippi, please stop at the Blues Museum. The likes of Blind Lemon Jefferson, Sonny Boy Williamson, etc. are on display as to the suits they word, the guitars and mouth harps they played, old recordings and video. Also a great Blues Club there, along with a wonderful Cafe that serves an outstanding southern breakfast. The story line is that there are two highways close by where Robert Johnson - the Blues Player that sang it in the '20s- made his pact with the Devil - Clapton (and many others) have covered it, i.e. "Crossroads". Sorry for the long winded tale. And have you ever heard of Tony Joe White? Stevie Ray Vaughn? Delbert McLinton? Bonnie Raitt? Janis? Elvis Aron Presley? Gawd, the list goes on and on, doesn't it.....

She's a nut but making a killing, I don't approve but do respect the newer generations for taking advantage of what they need to in order to make a buck. I just hope most young girls don't model themselves after her as few will ever make it.

As for old farts and music - I lean towards Jazz and older rock but you guys got to admit some of these newer groups are great. Amy Winehouse was unbelievable, Adele? every listen to some of Pinks or Lady Gaga lyrics? How about Mumford and Sons or No Doubt. Did you see Bruno Mars on SNL that song rocked - there is some good new music.

Didn't say all of the new music is bad, but I find most of it unlistenable. Most of it is made by attention-****** who simply can't bear the thought someone might not love them and think they're the best that's ever been.

My point is she accused Steven Tyler of racism simply for saying a truth, and I agree with him. As great as Dylan is and will always be, he could not make it in today's music world- where all they look for is outrageousness and marketing appeal. Music business now could not care less whether an artist has any real talent as long as they can mass-market and merchandise them, and Nicki Minaj is proof of that along with thousands more just like her. The Disney entertainment empire is particularly egregious about it as are most hip-hop producers. Ain't about talent- it's about getting yer face on everybody's electronic gadget.

As someone further up said, there are still plenty of good artists even today. Adele was a good example. When (some of) my generation listens to older music and exclaims that everything was better back then, they don't realize that there's plenty of noise from back then that nobody ever bothers to play nowadays, meaning that we only hear the really good stuff nowadays. :P

Again, who? My musical appreciation stopped around the mid 70's. Most of the stuff after that is mindless drivel and noise.

I was never a Dylan fan but can tolerate it.

And yes, play the music of days gone by, when the words had meaning and there was yes, oh yes, sweet music.

There are plenty of bands that go as far back as the late 70's mid 80s that in my opinion where awesome

The Police
Supertramp
Prince
Guns and Roses
Queen
Def Leppard
The Cure
English Beat
U2
INXS
The Clash
Sex Pistols
Romone's
I bet you'd even listen to Bananrama and Duran Duran - they had some great songs

in the 90s
Alice in Chains
Nirvana
No Doubt
RedHot Chilli Peppers
SoundGarden
Goo Goo Dolls
Green Day
Oasis
U2
Foo Fighters
Pearl Jam
eminem
etc.

Just saying I agree there is plenty of crud out there now but also plenty of really good musicians with great lyrics

Sounds like we had a lot of similar tastes. The last 4 - 5 years I have been lost musicly because the rock stations I have always listened too suck now. I found myself switching oven to country be still never gelled with it. About 6 months ago I found a station I love though. Its county but it not the Nashville manufactured crap. A lot of it Texas bands with a mix of others. Some of the artisted they play :
Willie Nelson
Johnny Cash
Jason Boland and the Straglers
Robert Earl Keene
Guy Clark
Casey Donahue
Turnpike Trubadoors
John Meloncamp
Steve Earl
Old 97's
Randy Rogers
Steve Earl
ect ect

Its not like anything I have ever listened to in my life but I'm really getting in to it. I just open my first itunes account and am finding a lot of stuff I similar to what the station plays.

I'm 43 years old and not a big fan of today's music, but I do like Nickelback a lot. It's a lot better than the slit-your-wrists, I'm-a-heroin-addict, dark, depressing grunge rock of a few years ago.

Okay so help me out here. I'm not a fan of Dylan, were his songs peppered with slurs or otherwise racist in tone? How does one get racist out of, his music wouldn't be accepted today?

Mike: I drive my Oldsmobile every day.
Nicki Minaj: You're a racist!

Luckily for us she'll be a has-been pretty quickly.

Way cool - I enjoy all of those. Rammstein had some fun tunes, as well as a few other German bands I cannot recall.

I agree there is some - just a little. There are a small handful that I like, including a couple gagas.

I agree on the lack of rock stations for sure. For as big a city as dallas, the selection sucks. Best selection I have heard on the radio was in Portland Oregon and somewhere in Maine.
92.5 is I think the ONLY classic rock station now. I sure miss 93.3 the Bone. The Eagle plays a few good songs now and then.
I have been into new country for several years. There are only 2 new country stations.

I think i know which one you are talking about. It is a good companion to the Possum, which is strickly classic country (which i like a lot). However the Possum needs to improve it's broadcast quality...

No. Tyler's comment that Dylan would quickly get booted off Idol was twisted by Minaj to mean he thought that she, as a black hiphop "artist" would not give a white artist a fighting chance. Ergo, in her world Steven Tyler has to be a racist.

I've been accused of being a racist because I have a state-issued Civil War Sesquicentennial license plate on the Ford truck. Some people see racism in everything but themselves, and that's how Minaj (how the hell do you pronounce that anyway?!) has presented herself. I dare say she herself is as racist as they come.

Now I'm not saying I don't like any music after 1980. I like metallica, slayer, andother artist, but if there is a radio station I can choose that bi won't have to change it's the oldies station and " classic" rock station. I do like country, and I listened to a lot of punk rock in high school and I like funk I have a wide range of music I like but like I said after 1980 my pickings get slim from a personal stand point. I will say I like bruno mars but not all his stuff but I think he is setting a genre/trend I don't think there is another artist out there like him current.

I just put my iPhone on shuffle - the thousands of songs on there beat the playlist of any radio station, and if one comes up that I'm not in the mood for, I just hit the Forward button.
Sometimes I'll put on Pandora, too.

Thank you.

I actually had no idea what this was really all about until you clarified it.

iPhone or Pandora are a must. The playlist on radio will eventually make you hate even your favorite songs, cause if they play it at all it's because some marketing plan says it's what people want to hear. Then it is played over, and over, and over, and over,,,,,,,
