Southern politics

Southern Politics

Many, many years ago back in the old south that was ruled by “deep water Baptist” [those who had been immersed for salvation] there is an old story someone shared with me about a southern lady addressing a politico at a rally inquiring on his stance of the use of alcohol;

“Madame, If by alcohol you mean that demon run that robs a man of his senses, his direction, his responsibilities, his true sense of purpose in Life. If you mean that vile fluid that has left mothers penniless with no way of caring for their infants, the concoction that pits one person and against another for no good reason or purpose-that depressant, Doctor Bottle, that dulls the mind, slows the senses, sidesteps the sprit and waste the human condition…then I am most bitterly opposed to it.

If on the other hand, you mean that elixir that puts the spring in an old man step on a frosty morn, that draught of moderation that raises the friendship to convivial fellowship. If you mean the wine of civility and the oil of conversation that can turn the ordinary event into an extraordinary one-the same staple that Jesus himself endorsed through his first recorded miracle. If you mean the taste of glen that accompanies a good book, a faithful dog and a warm, contented hearth…then I am wholeheartedly in favor of it.”

Great bit there Jamsbo. True double speak.

That picture brings new meaning to the terms "woped with an ugly stick"
"a 2 at !0:00 is a 10 at 2:00"

Wow you'd have to be shattered to touch one of those car-chasers.

I'm glad I had a few beers before I logged on, those faces would make a train take a dirt road.
Even the thickest of thick beer goggles wouldn't work, a brown paper bag ain't thick enough either.
