Still using 7 or 8??? I would just like to update to 7, lol. I am still using Vista at home and our work computers just updated from XP a little over a year ago to 7.

 

You should consider upgrading from Vista soon. Microsoft will stop supporting Vista with security patches on April 11, 2017, which is exactly six months from today. (You do realize that Vista is generally regarded as the worst version of Windows Microsoft ever issued?)

Windows 7 is good until January 2020 as far as Microsoft support goes, and Windows 8 is good until sometime in 2023 I believe.

Anyone still using XP is playing with fire as Microsoft stopped supporting that system in January 2015, and no security patches have been issued since. It, and therefore computers running it, gets a little more vulnerable to a hack with every passing day.

 

I thought the worst was Windows ME

 

My laptop crashed a month ago and I had to do a fresh reload of win7. Since I had already lost all my $hit, I decided to go ahead and opt for the free upload of win10. It sucks and my laptop won't run on IE or Edge properly, can't figure out why. So I have to use FF and Chrome. In Win 10 big brother is more intrusive you unless you turn off all the reporting/monitoring in the name of convenience.

 

Possibly, but ME was never a mainstream version of Windows. It was targeted to home users with Windows 2000, which was out at the same time, targeted to businesses. I would guess that most people never used ME. They just stayed with Windows 98 SE until XP came out. I know I went straight from 98 to XP at the time.

Using Win 7 Pro and doing just fine. Everyone I know has had trouble with Win 10, particularly in downloading it to their computer.

These are my judgements based on having to unscrew my wife's desktop when she tried downloading Win 10. Like me she had Win 7 Pro and she also uses IE. I wound up having to reload previously working software and find files from Outlook that were seemingly haphazardly scattered around.

A couple of observations/questions:
First, If Win 10 is such a winner why did MS push it as a free download for so many months? Seems if it was as good as they claim it would have had enough value for customers to part with some money to purchase it.
Second, I buy my desktops from Tiger Direct (great prices, good service) and their desktop HPs all seem to come with Win 7 Pro to this day. Why is that?

 

Get a MAC !!

 

My computer I feel is in good condition, is it possible to take Vista off of it and put 7 on it or is it best to get a new computer? It is a 2009 Dell computer but works great.
