WW2 soldier finally brought home
Today's (6/27) Richmond Times-Dispatch published a rather compelling obituary.
19 year old Army S/Sgt Carlyle Blanton was listed MIA 10/14/44, dead on 10/15/45 and non-recoverable in 1951. Modern DNA analysis finally identified his remains in 2020 in Germany.
S/Sgt Blanton's remains have been returned to Richmond and will be re-interred near his parents July 1.
As a descendant of a Confederate soldier who was never recovered or returned home, this made me wonder what if. But 150+ years later there's probably nothing left to recover.

Today's (7/9/21) paper reported a Korean Conflict soldier has been found and returned using DNA and anthropological analysis.
Marine PFC Henry Ellis will be reinterred in National Cemetery in Salisbury NC, where he was born.
His story is compelling as well. He was drafted in WW2 at 15 and reupped just in time to be sent to Korea. His unit was surrounded in a roadblock and all died.
And once again an American family has closure when their soldier finally came home.👨✈️

Back in 2014, PBS did a documentary called "Hallowed Grounds" . You can find it on the PBS website and on UTube. It's about the US Military Cemeteries in Europe and Asia.
It's 54 minutes long and you will never forget it.
