work van making a noise

My ford van is making a noise like a wining wizzing noise. It's worse worse when I let off on the throttle and the van is pulling the engine and way worse when I'm coming down the mountain and put it in 2 ND . Sounds like the noise a rear end makes when the ring and pinion arn't set right . I'm down on power a little and mpg' s as well. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. I'll set it up on jack s and see if I can tell where the noise is coming from. Never had a rear go bad before . Any suggestions?

Well it didn't take long to find out what the problem was. I jacked up and Ran it in drive the pinion shaft was going in tonight a lot. I don't know if it's worth fixing. I guess I'll try to find another 1.

I m going to take the cover off tomorrow and see what all is damaged. Still don't know if I'll change it for a used one or fix this one. Leaning towards a used one. If I can find one with low miles.
I talked to the guy at a yard that had 75 or 78 omega the last time I was there. It's not close but the price is right.

Used rear ends for Ford vans ought to be plentiful in wrecking yards.

I got the rear out today. looks like the bolt on the pinion shaft came loose. Doesn't look like anything was damaged. So I think I'm going to put it back together. Only problem is when I disassembled it I wasn't planning on using it but it shouldn't be too big a deal.
