superbowl manipulated??
superbowl manipulated??
I may be paranoid but somehow i feel that huge money made its way into this game and how it was played...it seemed too predictable to me. by all rights this game was over after the run back TD to start the 3rd...then a power outage...corporations that paid thru the nose for commercial spots with a blow out in the midst... and now a sudden come back by the niners...keeping it just close enough....almost seemed like some one said '' we have to keep this game close'' after all no one wins if its a blow out.
what ? no !!! stop it !!! thats all crazy talk

I cant believe that anyone would think just cuz there is a buck to be made that teams, sponsers, and corporations would conspire to deceive the public for their own gain.
BTW maybe you noticed the trend from "reality TV" 15+ years ago to todays "faux reality TV" where the show purports to be real or live but its entirely scripted (coff coff orange county choppers et all)
well guess what it would be hard to script an entire game but certain elements can certain be modeled to 'enhance' audience interest as needed.
as i tell my 5 YO nothing on TV is real its all fake
It will be interesting to see who was responsible for the power outage.
Could have been an accident.
Could have been a "group", making a political statement, that said they were going to cut the power.
Could have been a "group", making a political statement, that said they were going to cut the power, and the NFL will say it was just a power failure to discredit the group that claims responsibility.
All conspiracies.
BUT....last year there was a game (can't recall who) where it was a blowout, and after the 2 minute warning, a ref asked the head coach of the winning team to call a timeout so they could run more commercials. The head coach spoke out after the game, and he was reprimanded by the NFL.
So yeah, this stuff happens, all to make more money.
If you want to see "reality" TV, with scripts, watch NASCAR.

Heh. I watched the first quarter in a little downtown restaurant, eating a cheese steak. Its owner is a big sports fan with a lot of (naturally) Phillies and Eagles stuff in the decor, and his nickname is, you guessed it "Philly". He was pulling for the 'Niners and groaned when Baltimore made that first touchdown. I said "Philly, don't you know the Super Bowl is scripted?" He says "naw, naw man this ain't wrestling, this is REAL!" and the whole place hollered laughing.
I hadn't really thought about it turning into reality TV, but it makes sense. It ain't about the game any more; more about halftime shows and commercials. Sponsorship and advertising, in other words. The football game is secondary.
In these times it honestly would not surprise to me to learn of any pro sports event being fixed. People have no ethics any more, and the higher up the food chain they are, the less ethics they have.

I'm sure someone out there is going to say it's a conspiracy by the President.
I don't believe a lot of media events are blatently fixed anymore, but absolutely they are nudged by rules and rules bending to get the most viewers, and money for the 1%.
It's disgusting.
I remember an incident when Bill Elliot was flat out dominating a race around 1985 and he was black flagged into the pits for some loose body work during green flag racing. Legit maybe, but what happened after the repair was made was obvious manipulation for "the show". The pit official just stood in front of his car for seconds for no obvious reason. Elliot angrily waved him away but he just stood there for what seemed like a racers eternity. (If I remember right, the official had a stop watch. I could very well be wrong)
Two things;
First, Elliot still went on to dominate and win that race, leaving me to come to my rules bending and nudging hypothesis, and that media events aren't blatently fixed.
Second, that it's still phony, artificial competition and I don't watch that junk much anymore.

But dumb Americans love it. Look at the ratings American Idol and other 'talent' shows have had for the past several years. It's all phony and staged but that's what Americans want.
That's the talk at work today. We all gamble for a living here and are susceptible to conspiracy theories. Last night's game was kept close for the cash generated. No doubt in my mind or anyone's here. You don't keep it close, people leave the bar, go home, turn the channel, etc. No ticky, no laundry. I hit a square pool though, so I'm all good. On the safety no less! LOL!

Guys:
Don't waste your time watching thugs and social idiots, the majority of these guys waste the oppurtunity given to them to get an education for the exchange of destroying their bodies. It is sickening to watch these morons act the way they do on the field, if it were not for the sport, most of them would have low wage jobs in life. The sport used to have players who played for the love of the game. I am located in central Ohio and saw Jim Tressel get taken down by the same type of thug/gang mentality, if you deal w/ these type of people this is what happens, all in the name of TV ratings and money. When enough people quit watching and buying their goods maybe something will change but not until then.
Thanks Ron

I'll watch high school and some college sports and enjoy it, but when the big money and flashy lifestyle takes over in the pros, I'm done with them.
The players on the field are the animals of the field to be used. Focus on the money (owners/slavers) and the corporations that market this dreck. That is the power. Imagine the total $ spent $ from Pop Warner all the way to the 'Big Game' in the USA every year. Staggering sum for a silly kids game, huh? Tally up all the lifetime injuries and it's cost from same starting point. How much beer is consumed each year watching this spectacle. Meanwhile the country is being slowly dismantled and sold out behind the scenes.
I don't watch sports or much tv at all for that matter. Its a waste of my valuable time. I did order Pizza last Sunday night. The delivery guy arrived and was blow away I was out back in the shop and not inside watching the game.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan became the first sitting U.S. President to attend a NASCAR race. That July, he started the Firecracker 400 at Daytona where he gave the command, “Gentlemen, start your engines!” from aboard Air Force One. Later that day, Air Force One landed at Daytona International Airport behind the speedway in full view of the fans. It was at that race that Richard Petty captured his historic 200th victory.
There was a CLEAR pass interference no call on San Fran in the first half that looked like it would have been a TD.
All else being equal, tack on another 7 for Baltimore.
It is EXTREMELY paranoid to think that a lot of stuff that goes on in media events isn't pure bumbling, seat of the pants, make it up as you go along hyperbole, and THEN putting the best face possible on the outcome, or at least letting everyone think that you knew what you were doing, when you really were just treading water, and bluffing and blustering.
Real life is that way for the most part it seems.

not only on the field- in their private lives too. That's what has turned me mostly against pro sports, is the way these overpaid jerks behave off field. I daresay if it weren't for sports most would not even have a low wage job- they'd be dealing drugs, pimping or running dogfighting rings.

I don't know about all the fixing talk but nothing would be surprising to me anymore. You have to remember San Fran had to come back from big deficit against Atlanta to make the Superbowl. What I do know is that I am a huge NFL fan, I get the Sunday ticket and play in multiple fantasy leagues every season. I am now at the point where the Superbowl is such an overblown joke I don't even care to watch it anymore. Its not about the game its about the 2 weeks of beating any story to death, commercials that aren't even that great anymore and bad halftime shows. I honestly forgot the game was even on and happen to turn it on right at halftime. Its sad but to me the playoffs leading up to the superbowl are great, its the big game that sucks now.
