A sucker for dead General Motors...

Fine I said it. GM You Suck!
I happened... They killed Oldsmobile! I couldn't belive it!
You, Me, and so many breathren, sent letters and e-mails.
Think they cared? Yea right. Let's recap... Kill off you best seller,
CUTLASS, are you kidding me???
Pontiac? I chuckeled at first. Shook my head for the second time..
Today I found a '68 Poncho GOAT with A FACTORY DUEL GATE!
Was that available? I am True Blue Oldsmobile NUT!
This is a running driving true GTO with a 400 WITH AIR
for 8 K. Crappy paint, and front fenders need the patch job.
What do you guys think? Thats all the rust I could find. I
am sure there is a little more here and there, but it's straight,
and its tagged and stickered...

No, but a factory DUAL gate was available.

The Poncho dual gates used a straight stick the Olds (and aftermarket) dual gates used a bent (dogleg) stick.

The Cutlass was the best-selling model in America in the 1970s, not at the time that decisions about Oldsmobile's fate were being made in the 1990s.

IIRC '68 was the last year for the Dual Gate in the GTO.

For an actual shifter with two shift gates, yes, but Pontiac came up with an ingenious ratchet shifter that most people who had one didn't even know they had.

Look on a 70 thru about 77 Pontiac with AT and console and you may see, in addition to the lighted PRNDSL shift indicator lens, a 3 2 1 engraved on the right side of the shifter gate. A car with this has a ratchet shifter. Pull it into L (1), and when you want second, push forward hard and to the right and it will stop in S (2). Do the same thing with the S (2) to D (3) shift. Ingenious design. I think Firebird/TransAM used these 78-81, without the 3 2 1 on the shift plate. Not sure if Camaro had them, and Olds and Buick never used them.

And, in fact, that ratchet shifter can be retrofitted to a 67-69 Olds automatic console. I had one in my 68 Vista Cruiser back in high school. Of course, back then it was easy to find both the shifters and the consoles (and the bucket seats) in a wrecking yard for cheap.
