sometimes a blind hog finds the acorn, Maxwell car show
I try to get to the Maxwell car show each year if I can. It's one of those shows that are put on by the local small high school and is well run by a few over worked dedicated teachers and a few really helpful students lots of can i help you sir and thanks for coming to our show sir. This is a small town affair with a parade, BBQ and car show combined, reminds me a lot of my old high school. It started off as a 50 car local event and has over the years grown to over 250 cars some from out of state, many classy cars and a few outstanding trailer queens.
There were about 15 classes stock and modified plus best of show that were peer judged with another 5 or 6 what I call wild car classes, best paint, best engine , most unique, best convertible, under construction and such that were judged by the school, pretty common for this type of show The day went well, weather was the best met a few old friends again and the show wound down to the awards.
As I sat there waiting I mentally marked off the classes that I thought I might have a chance of winning but did not get. Not going to get best of chrome on a stock car(though I have a bunch of chrome it just does not happen on a stock car, no best engine unless you don't like chrome and love green, no best of paint( there were many wild paint schemes to pick from),no most unique( that's a Rat Rod thing) Lost best convertible to a Impala that I didn't even see and then they came to my class 1948-1961 and the trailer queen 1958 convertible deserving got that (it was spectacular and I don't even like 58's)
Well that was about it started folding up my lawn chair........ Then they announced my name .......” Best of Show”....I almost tripped over my lawn chair.
My car has won best of show several times before but never with 250 cars and never with the quality of this competition....Here are a few pics of the show....Tedd

Thanks guys. I was literally shocked to receive this award. Usually it's the 70ish muscle cars that win best of show or something exotic but I have a friend who has a 49 Buick century 4 DOOR who will occasionally pull off a win, who would have thought that.I guess every ones dad had one and nostalgia wins out sometimes.
It's all just a game we play that keeps a person working on your ride, doesn't make a difference if it's a Yugo or a Bentley you just want it to look just a little better for next time....Tedd

Congrats Tedd. I did win Class Winner yesterday in the convertible class at a Cars For CASA show. I have managed to pull off one Mayor's Choice and Lady's Choice last year. I did get Chairman's Choice Award at the NTOC Zone Show this year. But Best of Show is really special. There is a guy here with a 37 Ford that gets that award at every show he goes to. He got it yesterday. He probably has $150,000 in his car. But at least he drives it. I think one of the things that works for cars like yours is you see very few of them. You do see lots of muscle cars and Tri-5 Chevys. Congrats on the big one. You deserve it. Glad for you.
The Nomad had a tree fall on the roof and that how it got it's beginning. It was done very well and looked as though it was made originally that way, it should have gotten the most unique award in my opinion but didn't get anything, It's a very subjective game we play....Tedd
Shows are very subjective. I went to a small show about a month ago. It was probably 30-35 cars and trucks. The just awarded 5 Best of Show awards for cars and five for trucks. There were no classes. It was judged by two judges. I managed to place but there was a woman there with a red 1960 El Dorado convertible. This thing was a frame off nut and bolt restoration. It was probably done by Bud Ward in Arkansas who does GM convertibles to very high level and only does them in red. This thing had like every option available. She did not place. She should have beat me and everybody else except the GTO Judge convertible. Go figure.
Like Reoldsman says, shows can be very subjective. Most of have probably gone to shows where the awards went to the judges brother in law, or the judge had a soft spot for a particular car, or they didn't know squat about classic cars.
But for the most part the best cars gat the trophies.
It probably helps if the car is a classic icon, like a '59 Cadillac, '64 Mustang, or Tri Chevy.
So for Tedd to win with a '55 Oldsmobile is all the more of an achievement. Be proud Tedd, you are a credit to your car and the classic car community.
Roger.

It was great seeing you at the Show, Tedd! It made me feel good when you called out to me when I finally arrived. Next year we either figure out her overheating problem, or leave later in the morning to avoid the parade!
Thanks for also posting a picture of my car on your thread.
