Somebody stop me!! I bought another one...
A friend mentioned he had a 64 cutlass that he was never going to get around to restoring so he wanted it to go to a good home. Its all original, been parked in a garage since '93 hence the dust. Manual steering and brakes, bucket seats with colums shift. 40k original miles which looks like it is probably accurate.
The pictures are of the car as it was dropped at my house today - fresh from storage, untouched. with a little elbow grease and vinyl cleaner it'll look good as new.
Oh, I paid $350 for it plus a wagon fuel tank...buying a lottery ticket tomorrow....

Awesome score. The car is clearly worth much more than you paid.
6 cylinder or 330?. If 330 is it a 2bbl or 4bbl?
40,000 mi seems improbable. More likely 140,000 mi.
Are you going to resell the car or are you going to keep it?
Please check your PMs. I sent you one.

The car is a 330 4 barrel. The plan is to put in a little spit and polish and drive it as is. Expect a bunch more pics after this weekend. The best part is that it is BC reggie so I can just get it running and insure it. I don't have any documentation to back up the mileage but the original owner was a millwright who lived and worked on Vancouver Island.
The Buick rally wheels go back to the other owner. I will be putting on steelies anyway. They were just to get it rolling.
I just might be interested in swapping steering systems...

I spent the majority of the day cleaning the '64 up, inside and out. It looks pretty good from 30 feet away but the paint is pretty knackered. On the roof there is a row of drip marks from a pipe in the parking garage, the hood has some serious discolouration and there are several areas that look like they were touched up with a wide paint brush. Lots of parking lot dents and scratches galore.
The interior on the other hand is in fantastic shape. I wiped it all down first with soapy water then cleaned the vinyl with Race Glaze Vinyl and trim cleaner. The result was amazing. The carpet is a little worn but I can live with that.

Poking around I did see that the core support has a few little holes in it around the battery tray of course. The trunk is just surface rusty with the exception of a small spot at the seam at the passenger side wheel arch where it meets the trunk pan.
I did see that there is a little bit of blue paint on the driver's side lower trim which may indicate at least a partial respray at some point. The rubber seals around the windows are all cornflakes but to be expected.
Checking inside the rad, it actually looked clean and nearly full of fluid. The oil actually looked pretty good too, considering. Pulled out a couple of plugs and even they looked useable with a little cleaning.

Talk about the best $350 car you can buy! Wow, what a score!!
I would do the same as you - clean it up as best possible and drive it. Decide later which route to go. Looks like a 2bbl carb on the engine but it might net you some gas savings.

unconfirmed mileage
So I had the rubber pulled off the wheels today and the tires were dated 1970's era bias ply. They still had decent tread on them too. I don't know when they stopped selling those but I can't imagine it going into the 80's too long. There is also a service sticker in the engine bay dated 1987 at 38k miles. The car was put into dry storage in '93 at 40k miles and thats where it stands today.
I have no docs to prove it but that mileage just may be correct.

More on mileage, - another sticker on the door jamb shows service at 36k miles in 1983, with next service due at 38k.
Also, I decided to throw caution to the wind and try and fire it up today. Put in fresh fuel and a battery and gave it a crack. There must be a spark issue because there's lots of juice and the engine turns as freely as if it was run yesterday. I am going to dive in and see what I can do on my days off.
Everything works - radio, fan/heater switch, wipers, high and low beam headlights. I have one tail light out and thats it. I also have the warranty card from the transmission rebuild before it was parked.

NIce! Keep us posted on the starting issue.
If you can, keep those tires for show if they are not too bad. Just think how many others would have tires that old? Get another set premounted on another set of wheels for long drives.

I'm afraid the tires were pretty rough - all 4 flat as a pancake. The buick rally wheels are on loan until I get squared away which should be this week. New tires on freshly powdercoated factory 14's.
