You know, that white stuff was really purtty when it first started
...then after the 12"+, it started turning messy
. Then the power went out at 6:30 Thursday, along w/no/heat
. That lasted until 1:30 today (Saturday), or 43 hours or so. That ain't fun. Hearing limbs crashing into/through the roof at 2 AM ain't fun, either
. Went out today and bought a really good Echo 18" chain saw, and will cut up all the dead limbs after the insurance adjuster comes over Monday. Glad this was a freak storm for us (all time record, as Rob stated), HOPE IT NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN! I had too much of the white stuff when I lived in Ohio for 7 years (including the blizzard of '78), and after my wife left me for some other guy w/MY COR***E, I decided it was time to move back home. But, that's another story.........

Aron - I bet White Rock Lake was nice withthat snow! It would have been a good time for a bike ride.
Too bad about the power outage... I heard another member had the same.
It seems like many in our area lost big tree limbs. I saw some whole trees down as well. Most of mine were pulled to the ground, on top of the car, on the roof, or on other bushes. I lost one 2.5' branch from a holly tree, but that was it.
The yard is a friggen swamp for sure.
We were invaded by hundreds of robins and other birds, too. They stripped the berries from all 8 holly trees, reducing their weight.
However, the yard is full of snow that is spotted orange! Nasty...

I downloaded some pics from that snow we had in late April, 2005. I was so bummed! But everything bounced back when it melted.

last of the pictures (finally)
CG - Thanks for the earlier complements on my yard... I am rather proud of it too, since I converted it from a mud flat to what you see with my own two hands. The only contracted parts were the sprinkler system and the planting of 5 of the biggest trees. I rather not do that again.
Here are the last of the pictures, and the camera now rests in peace. It finally died after the 21,000th shot... Lens drive motor locked up.
It continued snowing all through the night...

CG - you were right. Everything sprung back as the snow melted. Most is gone now... It was pretty while it lasted.
I wish we could get tulips to grow here, but the ground does not chill long enough most of the time. This year might have been different.

We had witnessed the "Invasion of Robin"!
No not Batman's sidekick, but birds - up to a thousand of them!
They were everywhere. They came thursday in a huge flock, stripping the berries off 8 of the yaupon holly trees in just a few hours.
Every tree in my yard looked like this:
Yes, they made a HUGE mess.
Here one is close up.
Here is Mrs' cardinal chowing in the snowfall.
Here is where she plays in the mirror all day long, day in day out! Sit on the window will, peck at the image in the mirror a few times, hop up on the mirror, look around, repeat forever...
How long will it take for her to figure out it is here reflection??
Here is her male companion, cracking seed. They are never too far apart...

Rob... I love those pics!!! I really like the one of the Robin!! I can't wait until they come back around (though I think I heard some already). I just feel better when I see them. Makes me feel spring is close! They go through the yard pulling up the worms... yuck. I've seen them come back in February before. I love to hear them sing!There were 5 female cardinals at the feeders the other morning, but I only saw 3 males... don't know where the other 2 were. I really enjoy your pictures!
