Snow

11pm local news is prattling about 2 year anniversary of a major snowstorm. We got 17" here out of that storm and believe me that was gracious plenty. Only got a couple of dustings last year and I would be completely happy with that. And even happier without an ice storm of any description! Winter precip is not on my list of favorite things!🥶

A few years ago we got over 14" in the Dallas area. Folks lost barns, storage buildings, etc... The roof on the local mortuary fell in also. That was very unlikely for this area. Usually get one snow that is maybe 2 or 3 inches. Our problem around here is usually ice in the form of sleet.

It snowed here, a couple days ago and the average temperatures for winter seem to have been restored to what used to be normal, since air traffic has been greatly reduced to a minimum. I hate to read like a conspiracy theorist. But, doing the math, it seems to me that they really were geo engineering with chemtrails, afterall
Looks like Joe has gotten some of that God-sent white powder sprinkled around his property. He isn't complaining yet. Instaed, he broke out the old hotdog steamer, in order to warm up the living room

I use to love snow. That meant I could get the snowmobile out and play! Of course, that was back when I had disposable income and friends who enjoyed snowmobile trips.

I sold my snowmobile a few years ago. My back was messed up (it hurt to walk, no way could I ride it!) my friends became “domesticated” and sold their sleds, and with kids I just couldn’t afford the trips to Michigan like when I was younger.

Now, with no snowmobile, it doesn’t matter if it snows or not. I certainly don’t panic and stock up on groceries at the mere mention snow.

Why doesn’t everyone get a urge for French toast when it snows?! Walk into a grocery a day before snow is predicted, milk, eggs and bread are no where to be seen!

I sold my snowmobile to a guy who had a snowmobile when he was a kid in the early 70s. I warned him that modern snowmobiles are much heavier and much more powerful than the old stuff he had. He wrecked it the first day he had it.

The guy that lives across the street from me bought 3 Ski-Doo 800 triples and has been working on them. I can hear him out in the bean fields testing, there are few noises more enjoyable than a well tuned triple snowmobile! Maybe someday I’ll get another.

I like snow, i dont mind the snowblowing (within reason) ienjoy seeing how far the SB throws the snow and saves my back. Ive had the same snowblower for ~30yrs, its actually a 1971 model i bought used. It works great and i have no complaints w it.
I like driving around when its snowing. I commute to work so when it snows no one questions when i call in and say the roads are bad, then i go snowmobiling. I live right near a state park w groomed trails, from the state park when we have a good season we can travel to NH on trails, from there vermont, maine or canada is possible. NH is far enough for me, but an aquantence has ridden to the canadian border.

i agree w matt i have 3 triples, plus 2 more early 80s machines that are fun to ride around the yardwhen the snow isnt so great.

i dont like it when we get rain or no or little snow in the winter!

Were in a drought here so any moisture is good and it's been a few years séance any snow of consequence has happened (2 foot or more). I don't miss any of the times I've had 46+ inches all in one night so I would say snow is Ok in moderation .I can tell you no 4x4 does much with 40 inches of snow under it, I had 4 of them stuck tight in my front yard and finally got out with the Land Cruiser with all 4 chained up and a winch plus a lot of shovel work. I do like spring and fall..... Tedd

Glad to know Southern Vajenya isn't the only place that happens! I have never understood that mindset esp when the forecast is for an ice storm. Ice generally means electricity will be out a couple days. Why stock up on perishables when it's likely the fridge and freezer will be out? And in the typical all-electric home here, how you gonna cook it?

I learned as a kid to keep a few bags of ice in the freezer, have a couple big coolers around and leave them out in the cold on the back porch, and keep a Coleman stove handy. You might not need any of it for years, but there when you did.

Them that love snow may have my share. I too used to love it. Got out of school and got to play in it. Then I grew up, and the powerplant didn't close for snow and bad roads. I made it 30 miles to work for years with just a big GM wagon with studded snow tires. Now I think I need 4WD if there's two inches of it.🙄

Same here, plus winter is when we get the majority of our annual 7 inches of rain. We got some rain yesterday which was the first rainfall in 110 days.

I use snow as a sort of car wash. It does a good job of wiping off the rest of the year's grime

Recently wrote about snowfalls on another thread. As a boy growing up in Southern Michigan I loved winter. My folks lived on a small lake so we'd fashion ourselves a hockey rink and play pick-up hockey. We lived in a area that was pretty hilly and fairly rural. Good area for sledding and snowmobiling. It was all fun until the big snows came. Blizzard of 1967 brought 30-inches of snow in a 48-hour period in my hometown of Battle Creek. We were homebound for 5-days. My parents had a single story ranch style home and the snow was drifted onto the roof. Absolutely nuts. I don't miss those kind of snowfalls.

Ice on windshields does that too.

We had a big ice storm here in I think 1989-1990, my parents house had no power for a week. We kept all the freezer/refrigerator stuff outside in coolers, we cooked lots of our dinners in the fireplace and on the kerosene heaters. We were fortunate, some people who lived 10 miles northeast of nowhere didn’t have power for a month. Today’s kids would never make it! I can’t imagine how much whining my kids would do without the video games or internet.

I was in elementary school during the blizzard of 78, I remember my brother/sister and neighborhood friends sledding off the roof of a garage, the snow had drifted enough to walk up the drift, to the peak of the roof, and slide a good distance.

Maybe, it's time to load a few survival videos onto their phones and then drop them into the middle of nowhere from a helicopter?

In 2015 Boston got 11 FEET of snow in one season and last year we got less than 2 Feet the whole year - Go Figure

Having an Sierra HD with a plow makes life much easier - been pushing snow for 18 years though lately just doing my own driveway

Hully Jayzus I wouldn't live anywhere gets that kind of snow. 2 feet spread over a whole winter is too much; can't imagine 11 feet. Though we've had close to 70" of rain here this year. Twice the normal amount.

I'll stay here in SOUTH Boston Vajenya where a foot of snow a winter is more than enough, thank you!😎

Where I am probably averages around 180" of snow per season. Personally I don't care if I never saw another flake of the stuff. But I'm likely getting to be an old curmudgeon, everyone else seems to enjoy it.

You sure as hell won't find me outside in any type of cool or cold weather without my clothes on. The more cold, the more layers.

Cool

I look at snowmobiles as the same as women. You got to work on them all day just to get a 15 minute ride!

There is some truth to this! After many trips with old snowmobiles, and the hassles of breakdown and trying to find parts, I bought a “new” one year old (previous years floor demo) and never looked back.

A 8 hour drive to the U.P. Is too expensive to work on your sled in the rented cabin parking lot!

It depends on the snowmobile. Perhaps, you need to go out and get yourself an Asian one
