For sale/wanted replies

Not complaining, just wondering. Do you guys get this too? Not just here, either. A few weeks ago someone was looking for a piece of trim, and I offered it for free,no reply.Someone else was looking for some front end parts.I replied with pics. No reply. I notice in some other ads the same thing. What do you think? Are they busy? Fishing but not really shopping?
Waiting for more replies? Or bought another/changed their minds and didn't bother to let you know? When I ask a question, and get an answer, I always try to respond, even just a thank for the info. I see others do also.
It is not just here, I am on a machine gun site also, and see it. Not to cause trouble or point fingers, but just for opinions or ideas-what do you think this is about? Thanks for any replies. ---bil

I write it off as just part of life. Sometimes they may have gotten busy or they decided to go in a different direction and forgot to get back to you. If I spend a lot of time digging a part out, photographing it and getting shipping costs I may feel slighted. But I try not to hold those feeling for long. I know there have been times I got busy or distracted and not gotten back to others promptly. So I try to shrug it off and hope others will do the same for me when I'm the one not being as considerate as I should be. My 2 cents. John

Life gets busy, and not everyone gets on the computer everyday. If it was an old ad the person might not even login on this site anymore. Best thing to do is PM the person when you respond to an ad. If they have email then email them also.

Or the person could have found a part already and never took the time to update.

Oh, I don't get upset about much anymore. Not worth it. But sometimes I like to see if others see the same thing. Thanks. Besides, now I don't have to package anything! Back to the stash! ---bil

1. Yes and no. I find the ones who reply are the ones who aren't fishing. If you sell the part while waiting for the reply, no harm no foul. They should have got back to you if they were serious. Mind you, could also be that they haven't got time to get on the pc, but that's kind of weak IMO if they are 'looking for something'. I ran into exactly this kind of thing when I was looking to buy some allow rims for my winter tires. Seller still hasn't replied to my answer for his ad. There's more than one seller and buyer out there...you know that too. If I was looking for something and you offered it for free, I'd be on that like a pitbull chasing a squirrel..

2. Personally, I think your ethics are darn respectable. I also do my best to reply to anyone who sends me messages. I sometimes run into the 'no reply' thing too, but life's too short to dwell on it. Just move forward. It's their loss.

3. Machine gun site? Yikes!

It used to bother me but I don't care any more. I respond to any questions every asked but quit expecting any communication from anyone back. I also quit holding stuff unless money is in my pocket. Way too many have said I want that for sure. I will have money in tow days bla bla bla

Just keep doing the honorable thing, and earn some self respect points.

I try to help someone everyday on here, and there haven't been many materialistic benefits thus far. Doesn't stop me from trying to do a good job however.

I built wooden shipping crates for someone and packed an entire car interior into them , only to get stiffed a week later. Lesson learned. Don't lift a finger until you see the money.

I have a whole shed full of crap that I will never use in my life, and can't throw it away because someone might need it. I just happen to like Oldsmobiles that much. It would be too easy to chuck it in the trash, and get my 150sq. ft. of storage back. So yes it is irritating. I bring it upon myself though, so I'm partially at fault.

Good luck, and thanks for trying to help our website and members.

Bil, If you start working out I bet the next time you offer free trim, someone will take you up on it. Don't worry, nobody even asks me, especially the wife!

i had it happen some. it don't bother me because if i got them pictures and took the time to pull the part and i don't hear from them, then it is just ready to post for sale and most of the work is done already. i always feel that if that happened, it must have ben because it was to high of a price or not in the condition they wanted.

I have bought a few things from John. He is a huge help, and great benefit to the site. He is always fair, and has always been great to deal with. I try to communicate and treat everyone the way I would.

I have been very fortunate with the people I have dealt with on this site. exchange information selling or buying parts. I always use the pm method when dealing it has worked very well for me to date. Yes some people don't get back to me but like John says sometimes I get busy or am out of town and don't respond like I should, so a little forgiveness is appreciated

An inquiry is not a commitment to buy.

As far as I'm concerned when someone inquires and you respond, basic courtesy is
to reply even if it's to say you're not interested.
I do.
