That was pretty sudden - just read a interview with him a couple of weeks ago about how he was looking to get back out on the road.

Nobody will ever say that he had not lived his life to the fullest extent. I'm sure he had no regrets.

Unhappy Rip

I first heard Lemmy and Motorhead back in '81. What a Band! The forerunners to Mighty Metallica, these guys were Cutting Edge!

Rather than "heavy metal," I think Motorhead/Lemmy are credited more with defining "speed" and "thrash" metal - subtle differences, for those who don't favor these genres.

Guys:
My brother and I saw Motorhead open for UFO and AC/DC way back in the day at a small theater in Wheeling, WV. He had a fast rhytym on the guitar and vocals as well, they set the stage for present day Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax and Metallica and a host of other bands. Long Live Rock & Roll!!
Thanks, Ron

I never considered motorhead speed metal but then I didn't hear them until the 90 s .By then there was alot of stuff a lot faster. Back when I was younger radio was a lot more diverse andwe only got few station's that played that kind of music. Even so it was better then now where everything is owed by a couple people the sound homogenized.
Even now there are places you can push seek on the radio and it will just keep going around.

Stepenwolf was the first band to use the term heavy metal in a song. I think black sabbath was the first metal band I think. Motorhead (lemmy) was kind of ahead of alot of people.l think although punk rock was already out by the time motorhead formed he influenced the second generation of punk bands. If you listen to bands like GBH there is no doubt where the influence is from.

A couple of years ago I had the Chance to meet Lemmy in the backstage area of a German metal Festival and had a drink with him. Over all I have visited 5 or 6 Motörhead-gigs and everytime I was really amazed about the Power of these guys!
I will never forget - RIP

Long live Rock'n'Roll !!!
