reformed smoker - i hope
I quit 20 years ago, I got sick with the neumonia and couldn't do it. For a few years I smoked on the weekends while having cocktails only but eventually I kicked it all together. It's just a nasty habit but you can kick it! Good luck!
Ok, been 7 weeks and off the chantix. The cig cravings are slowly going away and tolerable.
Also been 2 weeks since I decided to try and be retired. So far my wife has kept me busy with repainting and caulking the inside of the house. Now she wants me to do the outside. I haven't been able to start on any projects with the car yet.

Remember when you asked if my wife had a sister??? My wife doesn't force or ask me to do anything like yours does. She occasionally asks where we might go on vacation, but she also lets me work on my projects and buy tools whenever I want. You should come up and meet her sister.....

Congrats Eric!

Ok, 8 weeks, got weak and stumbled once, it tasted like crap. Got my head back straight and pressing on. As I explained I decided to retire @ almost 55 and tinker. You really don't realize what your bills are even when all your stuff is paid off, I think after all the cypherin it will be somewhere around $2-2500/ month.
I got almost all the honey dooooo's done. You know the ol saying, when momma's happy... I'm starting on the reassembly of the 67 BB Vette Roadster tomorrow.

I quit drinking and other things years ago, that was easy! Cigarettes... I quit in 2009 for a year, but after smoking as long as I have, it's tuff.

My mother smoked for 15 years and stopped while having my sister, my brother and my self. She finally quit for good about 5 years back. She say's she still get's the urge to smoke everynow and again . I have been on and off for about 6 years at the most i smoked a pack every 2 days and i was going through some pretty tuff stuff.

About the retirement thing? I hear ya. The money on retirement is about 40-45% of what I was making while still at work so it is a bit of a hit at times.
Prior to retirement I attended a number of company sponsored 'Pre Retirement' sessions. They explored issues of newly found time, finances, taxation, succession planning, social interaction etc. It provided valuable insights that I still think about. At times I wonder if I retired 'too early' at 55. But the peace of mind not putting up with office politics and stress levels far outweighs the $$ shortfalls. After 32 years with the same company, it was time.
Oh, just so you know (and I'm sure you do), a lot of folks that retire often go on to re-enter the work force for various reasons. I may do that at some point if I find something that 'feels right.
Best of luck with your continued projects and health goals. Keep momma happy.
Well outside of savings and whatever I can earn on the side, I have no additional income at the moment. My Social Security will kick in @ around 62 and then my wife's will kick in a 3 years after that. So anyway we'll fly by the seat of our pants for a while and see what happens. I was, like you, tired of the BS at work. I always said that if it ain't fun it ain't worth doing anymore.
The smoking thing has been stressfull, fell off the wagon, but have been back on track for a while.
Now that it's warming I've been keeping busy with honey-doo's and piecing my buddies 67 BB Vette Roadstar back together. Got the front and rear suspension back together, brakes and lines on, and owner decided to send carbs off to Holley for going through. This week I'll get the engine cleaned up, install flywheel, clutch assy's, and trans so we can hopefully drop on to frame.

Quitting smoking was the third best thing I ever did:
#1 Marrying my wife who is the best in the world!!!
#2 Quit drinking in 1988---
#3 Quit smoking 1983---
It all happened in a reverse order, but honestly, I'm proud of all three, and have never felt better. Now, if I just get over this back surgery and BACK TO MY OLDSMOBILES!!!!!!!!!!

When in the hospital especially at first every medical personal who looked at my charts asked are you a smoker, They were evaluating my chances, Glad I never started. Hang in there your lungs will thank you later.....Tedd
