Oldsmobile Documentation

Found this stuff in the trunk of my Delta when I bought it, along with a ton of other papers, some receipts, mostly junk. Just recently I started going through it looking for original documents. I found these, plus the owners manual. The documents are in very good shape, too bad someone peeled part of the manuals cover and wrote all over it though.

The interesting one to me is the Consumer Information, particularly the Acceleration and Passing Ability section. Notice the 98 and Toronado can supposedly complete a high speed and low speed pass quicker and in less distance than even the Cutlass. Wonder why that would be?

I think it's safe to assume that the Toro and Ninety Eights tested with a 455 and likely with 4bbl. They were heavy cars and that was the standard power team

Cutlass probably tested with the standard engine 350 2bbl which is rated at lower HP and torque. Even though a lighter car the Cutlass wouldn't have the torque of a 455 to git up n' go.

The actual distance and times compared are very similar and as the brochure says, the distances and times can be met or exceeded by the vehicles to which they apply.

Very cool documentation BTW.

Very good points Allan. I actually got to thinking this after I posted, that each car was probably tested with the base model engine. Does that mean the Delta's information here would also likely be with a 350? That was my assumption after browsing through the engine ID section of the service manual and what engines were available in what.

I am easily entertained finding this sort of stuff... I browsed through tons of receipts, those that I could still read. Lots of tires, filters, small parts.

Unfortunately I don't have any references about the base engine in the 74 Delta. But if it was a 350 2bbl, I think it would be reasonable to draw that conclusion about it's passing performance too.

The CSM shows it as an option, but that's all I know. Seems logical looking at its performance data.

Did you also find the protecto plate for the car?

re: owners manual. It appears the dealer had the cars VIN written on the front, and the stock number for inventory. Do you know who the dealer was?

Did not find the protecto plate. I believe I know who the dealer was, from the dealer badge on the trunk. It says DAY Beatrice Nebraska.

By the way, the VIN is still readable on the manual. I may be overly cautious, but I have always been hesitant about posting certain stuff on the internet. I blur VIN #s, license plates, addressed, etc. I guess that explains why I never use any of the social networking websites!
