Accommodating big city life is much easier during developing years of youth, IMO. So many great places to experience (i.e. Planetarium, Art Museum, Science & Industry, Natural History, theaters, ballrooms, stadiums, arenas, ballparks, restaurants, etc.) - just a plethora of amenities. As the sands of the hour-glass slowly settle, those amenities become far less necessary but remain meaningful. You couldn't pay me enough money to live in a large metropolitan area. If it wasn't for the fact I found Podunk on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, I'd prefer to live in the mountains. We have one gas station & three entrances/exists into/out of town & I complain about too much traffic.

Ditto! Then you might say, but you live in St. Louis! Funny thing about St. Louis, it has many of those amenities you mentioned, albeit not on as grand a scale, but has never felt like a Chicago or Atlanta type of environment. I only live 25-milea from the heart of downtown St. Louis, but literally feel like I'm in the country, with deer, turkey, and every other critter you can imagine right in my backyard. Heck, the black bear are even moving back in with several confirmed sightings the last couple of years. If I had my druthers, I'd love to live in a small mountain town, but my kids, grandkids, and buddies are all here, those factors alone are enough to make me stay. I've done enough traveling across the entire U.S. to know that all things considered, I'm in a pretty nice place to be for my tastes.

This is true. The opposite is true in the cities. Women party from their teens till 35, then, all of a sudden, the trusty provider-vibe guy that they ignored in their 20s has made a couple million, and they start looking to him to settle down and crank out one kid before they can't. Thing is, that mid 30s millionaire can now do better than her now-high mileage self, and he goes for a newer model. I think we're going to see an entire generation of women get abandoned by feminism as they age out of relevance while still single. This is sociological commentary, not politics, lol.

I received federal funding for three years on a grant I wrote to study aquatic invertebrates on the Buffalo National River in the Ozarks of Arkansas (1980-1983). During this time I resided in the Mountains - nearest neighbor was 7 miles away, my access to my homestead was via an abandoned logging trail procured by the county (so, it was graded).

Billy Bob Houston was a canoe concessions owner/operator at the top of the river. Billy was married 7 times and reared 23 young’ s. Some of Billy’s kids were breeding with one another and resided in some ramshackle homes put together with chicken coups and old refrigerators - no electricity for some of them aside from the occasional generator. Running water provided via a series of 50’ garden hoses strung over a hillside from a nearby spring. Some of the children conceived by his inbreeding children might make good sideshows for a traveling circus. Yet, I still loved the mountains.

Mike, the car is a solid California car. Loaded w/options and a build sheet, it needs cleaning up. The factory steering wheel is in the trunk, the dash bead is $40 from Fusick, and the handicap controls are easy to remove.

Hi everyone.

Beautiful here at my house today. This afternoon after work I was over at the new house, and it poured down rain, thunder and lightning, for almost a half hour. Got back home and it hadn't even rained at all. Odd, three miles difference.

So work started out with the lead saying how we had to get up to speed and stay there all day, we were going to be busy, etc. and then things screeched to a near halt. Seems one of the guys that works in the back tested positive for the croup, and he and several others went to the lead to fess up. They are all buddies and I thought maybe there was a fishing tournament somewhere they were going to enter. Their lead(the bad lead) wasn't there today so a perfect time to rush the weak lead. Needless to say we didn't make our number, I don't know if people were going to stay late or what. I didn't.

Norm didn't we touch on Billy Bob's family some time back, you had gone to administer some medicine or some such thing and two siblings' offspring were out in the front yard and looked to have some inbred syndrome.

You know after years of wanting to get out of Dodge, I only have fond memories of Chicago. Actually, I never lived in the city, I'm a suburbanite. But we were close enough. Loved the lakefront, the museums, downtown. My friends and I would drive downtown on a summer Saturday night in the convertible and just ride around. Good times. Of course this was the 80s, before this wave of crime and shooting that is there now. I'd love to get back downtown and see all that stuff, go get some Frango Mints, go up in the Sears Building. You can see forever up there.

Well Tiger hasn't been feeling terrific the past couple days, so tomorrow will be another day I go in at the regular time. That's a couple more hours he doesn't have to be uncomfortable or upset. I should call in myself, and use the time to pack up stuff and move it over. Eh.

Okay time to hit the sack. Hump Day awaits. Have a good evening everyone.

Norm, I just read an interesting article about "How to break 80" [ one of many I'm sure]

Anyway, [on average] How many greens do you make in regulation? How many puts do you hit in a round ?and How many doubles? [which kill you]

Good morning guys,

Had an 0800 dentist check-up this morning and home by 0900. All's well. Looking at highs of 97 today and tomorrow with heat indexes of 110, Ugh! Good news is I have no plans where I have to be out in it.

Forecast is looking great for car events this weekend, highs of 83 both days, and single digit chances of rain. Hopefully that forecast holds.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Not quite as hot here, but a great weekend coming up, with low humidty and temps in the mid 70's. The Del Shannon Memorial car show is Sat. Should be a good one. We've gotten 6 7/8" of rain since Saturday, unusual for this time of year.

Dan - Boy that's alot of rain since Saturday! Sounds like a really nice weekend coming up though! Our's will be nice too for this part of the country, this time of the year. Where's the Del Shannon show held? The show I plan to enter the car in on Saturday is at the VFW in Arnold, MO which is only about 12-miles from me. It was a good one last year. If things go well with the weather I would like to drive the car down to Ste. Genevieve about 50-miles south of me on Sunday for a big cruise-in they're having at the Knights of Columbus in conjuction with a big festival they're having there.

Thanks! Learned something new, don't think I even knew Del Shannon was from Michigan. I don't ever remember driving 96 between GR and Muskegon either!

Looks like more rain on the way for tonight & tomorrow, I may be spared the worst of it, as it appears on radar that the first wave will be south & east of me, and the second round to the North. Currently 200,000 w/o power in S.W. Michigan. Hope my power stays on, too humid to sleep w/o the a/c.

Wow, 200K still without power. Some of those storms must have really been severe. Haven't heard anything from my sis about anything bad moving through around her, but I can't say she's always the best communicator.

Good evening guys,
Well, the fool that I am, I called the State DMV Office again today inquiring about where the hell my Historic plates are. Again, I was on elevator music for an hour and a half before I got to talk with someone. Again, the lady I spoke with confirmed my application had processed and my check had cleared. However, she could not see any indication the plates had actually shipped, even though the person I talked to on the 26th of last month had assured me they were scheduled to ship on the 30th of July. She told me that she and her supervisor were going to go down to the shipping department to try and get to the bottom of what was going on, to see if they had actually shipped, and if not, to see if the shipping could be expedited. She then took my number and said she would call me back after they found out what was going on. This all happened between 1100 and 1245 this morning, I haven't heard squat, WTF!!!

Anyone have any suggestions? If I don't hear anything by COB today, I'm thinking I might call my State Representative for my district in the morning and see if they would be willing to light a fire under them. I'm at my wits end!!! They received my application on 14 June and it's closing in on 2-months, this is fricking insane!!!

Hi everyone.

Work was okay, same as yesterday no one was in a hurry and we were there until 230. Then for some reason there were wrecks on every possible way home and traffic was a disaster.

Went over to the house and got the battery for my sister's car and went to get a new one. I like going to this place that's a little hard to get to(more traffic) because they are usually a lot cheeper than an auto parts store. Small little battery for a Honda Civic was 90 bucks. Seems a little high for that place. Also tried to get a head gasket set at NAPA and they didn't have any. Odd, that's a popular car with a common problem. I'll have to try the Honda place tomorrow.

Chris the application you turned in probably said in tiny print, will take 60-90 days. I'm guessing the reason they didn't call you back was because they never found anything. Oh who am I kidding. As soon as they hung up the phone you went right out of their minds.

Thanks for the video Norm. I play this all the time. But I turn the sound down because I can't stand that song.

Tiger got ahold of an armadillo this morning, and wouldn't turn it loose. It's 5am and I'm yelling at the top of my lungs for him to come in, he's behind the garage barking and snarling. I don't have a flashlight so I grab the phone and turn the light on, and go out and see him with this critter in his mouth. No way was he dropping it. Finally smacked him on the behind and he dropped it. It was still alive but mangled. I was afraid the thing hurt Tiger but I didn't see anything so I went to work, and looked up armadillos. If it said they were harmful to dogs I would have come back home. It really didn't say anything and this afternoon Tiger was just fine. His tummy still isn't feeling well.

So no overtime for me this week. I know I'm not going in early Friday so what would be the point of going in early one day, it would hardly be a blip on the paycheck. I kind of hated to turn down overtime for the weekend, we're working both Saturday and Sunday. Double time is always a good time. I'm going back to Mom's for several days, it's her 80th birthday. My brother will be in town, I'm not missing all that.

Okay gonna hit the sack in a minute, hope everyone had a good Hump Day.

Mike - Glad Tiger was not injured by the Armadillo!

Nope, the application didn't have any fine print related to processing time. So I called ahead before I sent it in to ask how long the process was taking. The person told me 30-days on average as long as everything was in order. I thought that's fine, even if it takes a couple more weeks, I'll still have them in plenty of time before my current ones expired. Boy was I wrong!!!

Dillos are harmless other than carrying Hansen's disease bacteria, which has a low chance of causing leprosy in humans. Dogs, I think, are at no risk.

I kinda read it the same James, yuk yuk...All good here guys! I was following the thread about the roaring in front of car and decided to order a Hayden 2747 fan clutch. About 8 years ago my wife took the Olds to a local car show. She left it idling and it got hot and steamed all over, how embarrassing! Anyway I figured fan clutch had failed(freewheeled) so I went on Rockauto and ordered a generic fan clutch. I installed it and hated how it roared, went to the Gettysburg nats and I could hear the roaring when going 70 mph down highway. So I decided to order a Hayden 2747 which is supposed to be a standard type replacement. In the process of changing it now, ( had to do something else while in the middle of job). I sure hope it is better, It looks identical except the Hayden has a # printed on it. We'll see...

Classicolds has always been controlled. Some other sites are wilder (and now lesser) like ROP. There was some kid named Brandon who would show up and randomly post "*****!!!" in big font like some running gag. He was either chronically attention deprived, or was special needs.

Dan I'm not sure how much rain we got. The storms were at night. We never lost power but a lot did. The top of a dead tree broke off and broke off some branches of a Maple over at the barn and a small road I tried to use was blocked due to a tree down. It was a lot of rain for sure.
Well got the Hayden clutch fan installed and it seems better but still some noise.

Good afternoon guys,

Maggie had injured a front paw somehow yesterday evening late and came indoors limping on it. Couldn't see any external trauma to the paw or nails, but was sore to the touch. She was doing a little better by bedtime, and this morning she doesn't appear to be limping anymore or favoring it. Looks like it's gonna be ok on its own. Glad we didn't have to make a trip to the Vet.

Went out early and polished the wheels and bumpers on the 4-4-2 before it got too hot, prepping for the show this weekend. It's 97 degrees in my garage right now so I won't be doing anymore today, but I'll get out early again tomorrow and dust and vacuum the interior and I'll have it ready. Need to get out and mow before Saturday, I think I'll be waiting until tomorrow for that too since it's supposed to be at least 5 degrees cooler.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Addition - I forgot to add, that in regard to the ongoing saga of my "Historic" license plates, I sent an email today to my State District Representative, detailing the situation in chronologic order, and asking her if she would look into, and intervene in the matter. Her website said she personally reads every email from her constituents, guess we'll see what kind of response I get??? If I get no satisfaction that route, the next step will be to see if any of our local news channels would like to do a story on it. I still have not received a call back from the DMV as I was promised yesterday!

James - I've never had any dealings with her, haven't heard anything about her either, good or bad. For now, I'm gonna operate under the old adage, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me! If she doesn't respond back to me at all within a reasonable amount of time, and I can get a news agency to investigate, I will be sure to advertise that I contacted my State Representative and they didn't even care enough to respond back to me. It's a shame that I've come to expect this type of ineptitude from Missouri State Government, usually I'm at most just annoyed, but now I'm pissed!

104°F Heat Index the past x3 days, 113°F Heat Index today. I'm easily drinking x2 gallons of water throughout the day buttering bricks. Currently, fabricating/fashioning column caps - one column complete, 2nd column 1/2 done. I've gone through 42 of 45 60lb. bags of mortar - rounding the corner.

Yesterday's 18 hole round (41/39), last night's 9-hole shootout (40) - SOS. They matched me up with a couple of goons last night. Oh well, the weather was pleasant enough. My handicap off the white tees has remained 6 for over one month - frustrating. Tomorrow's tee-time @ 8:30am.

Replaced the HPS (High Pressure Sodium) barn light fixture. Clothes dryer on-hold until it starts raining & I need to work indoors. I have the back removed, the top removed and the front removed. I found two more either switches or sensors below the drum - I believe they're most likely sensors, but I'll need to look them up and test them for continuity. I think I MAW replace the drum belt while I'm deep in the schmitz with it all. Current belt doesn't look that bad, but I don't want to go down this hole again any time in the not too distant future.

Cajun's Choice Shrimp on a bed of Angel Hair pasta is next on the agenda.

Norm - Nice round yesterday! Glad you got the light fixed. Don't give yourself a damn heatstroke trying to get your wall done!

Our temps have mirrored your's the last 4-days. Today's high was 98 with heat index of 110. Rain tonight and probably tomorrow, and then starting Saturday actual highs of only 80 - 85 for the next week which will be nice.

Hi everyone.

Warm today but not blistering. Work was okay, my wall guy was slacking all day and we didn't finish all our work, but a couple other guys helped us out. My wall guy is excellent at his job, but when he gets in one of his moods, he doesn't do $hit. Then he takes the attitude that someone else should help him and he slows down even more. I'm at a loss, because I can't say anything to get him going, and I can't do anything until his job is done. Very frustrating.

Chris it's obvious you're retired. Glad the foot wasn't any worse than it was.

Jamesbo the ***** bit was pretty funny. Maybe you should leave the glasses off so we can get more laughs.

Norm you're the champion of the dryer. Guess what. The laptop started being real slow again, like it was before I called you. It got to where it wouldn't load all the way, and it was due an update anyway, so an hour later and it's working fair. I believe the last official act of lakery before I vacate is tossing this out and letting it sink to the bottom.

Okay Friday tomorrow. I'm sort of ready for my trip to Florida. I'm sure we won't get out before 1 tomorrow so I'll finish up when I get home and leave probably around rush hour. That will be fun. My sister is having a party at her house tomorrow night, don't think I'll make it. But now, bed.

Have a good evening everyone.
