James - I love Salmon! We were a big fishing family growing up and my Dad would take us Salmon fishing with him on the Western Michigan rivers when the salmon would run. Ate many a fresh out of the river salmon steak grilled over a campfire on the bank of the river. I'll definitely try the grilling recipe next time we have some. I really love smoked salmon too, a real delicacy. The Lodge looks like a really neat side trip!

Good evening guys,
Hallelujah, I was finally able to get the yard mowed. Had to mow the front yard twice to get it down to where it looked good. It had rained on and off most of the morning, but the sun came out around 11:30 and it had dried out enough to mow by 12:30. By that time it was about 85 degrees with 1000% humidity. I was soaked through by the time I was done. Came in and took a shower, rehydrated for about an hour, and then did my lifting workout. I hate missing a workout just cause I'm a little tired. I'm always afraid if I skip one it will be that much easier to skip the next, and then the next, well you get the idea. I keep telling myself I'm going to try to keep up my 6-day a week workout regimen until I'm 70 and then I'm going to give myself a break. I probably won't quit though, I don't know if my body and brain could survive endorphin withdrawl!

Well I really am tired now. Hope everyone had a great day and a relaxing evening!

Born in Alaska, and I don't care for Salmon, nor fish in particular. In the one pic in that video, are the two older twin engine planes Lockheed Electra's? Chris, we used to go fishing at Bear Creek up in Manistee, "Coho Junction" in the mid to late 60's. Also on the Manistee River. Listened to the '68 World Series while up there fishing. I never caught a thing.

Glad to hear you're feeling better , Mike. Yesterday we rode with our friends over to Grand Haven Mi, to pick up a purchase off Facesit Marketplace he made for his boat lift. On way back we went to the grandson's regional baseball game in Sparta. Our friends have a grandson also on same team. It was hot but quite pleasant. Game started and our team got 2 runs in the second inning, but started to rumble thunder off to the east. Then started to sprinkle, then announcer said game stopping cuz of lightning. Lots of people went back to their car (it was a long walk back to car ) but I thought it would be over in a few minutes- WRONG!! That was a mistake! We got soaked and I mean like a drowned rat! It rained really hard for about 1/2 hour, them a medium rain for another 1/2 hour. Finally they rescheduled game for the next day. The officials allowed the game to restart at the bottom of the 3rd with score of 2-0. I hope they win it, we won't go to that one.

Dan and Greg - You guys are making me homesick for Michigan, speaking about many of the wonderful places and rivers I spent time with my family. The Manistee River is where my Dad fished the most for Salmon, but we also fished on the Grand River and the White, are a couple I remember. I remember canoeing on the Manistee a few times as a Boy Scout too. Last time I fished on Lake Michigan was out of South Haven, it's probably been 15-years ago now. One of my brother's DNR buddies worked that area and had his private 26-foot, dual outboard, with about 6 or 8 downriggers harbored there, and he took us out. I remember it very vividly because the surf was so rough that day, 5 to 7-foot swells,, I was sure glad I took dramamine before we went out! I miss Michigan watersport activity. We have alot of nice rivers around us, but not nearly as many nice lakes

Trying to fool Norm, James? Your original post stated 5/9, I received the email with 5/9 (still have it). Then you rapidly changed (edited) to 6/9….just as I was quoting/responding to you. Think about it, James.

Greg, the rain has been scattered for the last couple of days, we got a bit yesterday, but nothing to write home about. We are still in the severe drought area, and as you probably know Michigan still is behind in rainfall for the year even though some spots got a few inches of rain over the last couple of days. Chris, one place that I need to get back up to is the Platte River up in Benzie, such a great area. We used to camp at the Benzie State Park when I was a kid, all I did was spend the day in the river, clear and shallow enough to walk across in places. Did a lot of paddle boarding.

Hi everyone.

Beautiful out, with a few showers here and there. I was looking out my back windows and it was raining with the sun shining. I thought for sure we'd get a rainbow out of the deal, but it must have only been visible from the front windows.

We were a little slower today at work, we finished up after lunch but still had quite awhile to sit around and do nothing before we went home. We're working early in the morning, I might as well go in. Word is we're getting a big bunch of main wheels come through, I'm sure the work of the bad lead, so we're planning on being there all day. Why this Friday over any other Friday you might ask? It isn't. He pulls this **** every Friday. I'm guessing our lead won't be there tomorrow.

Our church went to camp all the time in Saugatuck, MI. Funny, I never went myself. I'm surprised since my parents were always gung ho about us kids being active in the summer church activities. They didn't know we figured out it was just to keep us out of their hair. There's a rather folksy song about Saugatuck. Or is that Saginaw? I know Saginaw is where Tilt Wheel comes from.

A friend of mine went on a big fishing trip once, I think to Alaska, and brought back a bunch of halibut. He gave me a chunk and I looked up a recipe on the internet. You boil that stuff with 6 cups of sugar for some ridiculous amount of time. It's the first time I had ever had halibut. It tasted like tuna in 6 cups of sugar.

Okay one more. I'm off to bed. Oddly enough I'm tired. I slept good last night, and was okay all day at work. It must have been that two hour wait to leave when I dozed off and was rudely awakened by -something- that's making me tired. Hope everyone has a good evening.

Mike - Sorry about your experience w/ Halibut - one of my favorite fish to eat. Whatever recipe was followed appears to be a simple way to completely ruin halibut. I eat halibut as a steak - sometimes marinated & generally simply grilled or baked - it's delicious. Anything boiled like that with six cups of sugar sounds awful.

Good evening guys,
Guess my wife was very appreciative for me taking her to pick up furniture yesterday and today. One of my favorites, her homemade caramel pecan sticky rolls. She made two of these pans, so I'll have rolls for 2-days, LoL!

Dang Chris, that looks good. Back in the mid 80's my parents went to Alaska after my mom retired to visit family. My dad's cousin was a guide, and also had a charter boat. My dad ent out with them one day and caught a 110lb Halibut. His cousin's wife had them pack it on ice for the trip back home, and gave them a recipe for halibut stew, it didn't taste too bad....for fish.

Dan - That's a nice catch, I'm sure your Dad had fun getting it in! Norm had some larger ocean going vessels, I'm wondering if he did much fishing? I like the taste of most fresh water fish much better than most species of salt water fish. Walleye and Crappie are my favorites. I soak the filets in buttermilk, then coat them in a cornmeal and flour mixture, and deep fry them in peanut oil in a kettle fryer. The absolute best!

When a fish boil is done correctly (and, in particular with the correct fish and cleaned correctly), a fish boil can be very good. Our family used the recipe below with Lake Michigan 'Whitefish' and they all turned out quite good.

Good evening guys,
Just got back about an hour ago from a 225-mile ride with my buddy on back roads out to Cuba, MO where we ate lunch at a great BBQ joint. Left out of here around 0930 and got home about 1600. Great ride with great Ozark scenery, but it was a scorcher! Not "Kenneth" hot, but still HOT at 97-degrees, at 1600. It was bearable when you were moving, but pretty rough at a stoplight. Really kinda zaps you when you're out in it all day.

Hope everyone else had a great day and has a relaxing evening!

Hi everyone.

Oh now it works. Earlier I wanted to post but there was no way I was going to be able to write anything. Everything else worked, but when I went to type, nothing. It must have gotten over itself because it's fine now.

So it was nice enough most of the day, but I drove through some huge rain going down to look at a place. In fact it just started raining here, pretty big drops. I'm in for the night so I don't care.

We didn't leave work until almost 1. Took lunch and everything. Both my lead and the bad lead were there. The bad lead told us later on in the day that we needed to do four 737 Radials and four 737 nose tires. But he told us right after they were strategically placed in the middle of the rail so we couldn't get to them for quite awhile, thus delaying our leaving. We asked our lead why he doesn't do anything about things like that. He just shrugged. Our lead is a nice guy, but he's weak. We didn't bust our backs today and our lead was a little miffed. Tough ****.

The guy that gave me the halibut is who suggested I look for that sugar recipe. He gave me a big slab and I cut it into cubes. It had so much sugar it was like fish Kool Aid.

Chris glad you had a good ride today. Sometimes I miss riding but not usually. I was never good at it. I still have my helmet and chaps.

Kenneth I'm guessing the chinese water torture wouldn't work there. The water would evaporate before it got to your face. Okay let me ask you. Someone told me once that when it's that hot you have to drive around with your headlights on, even during the day. The charging of the battery keeps it from going dry. That doesn't make much sense to me, but just what someone told me. True?

Okay think I'll sit in front of the TV for a little while. We get to stay up late! Have a good evening everyone.

Yeah, with single digit humidity that would just be a personal evaporative cooler, not a torture. FYI, we have this thing called virga where rainfall evaporates before it hits the ground. Kinda like the heavens looking down at the parched earth and saying "psyche!"

I've never heard that one before. You're right, that doesn't make sense. Charging the battery would accelerate the "battery drying out" effect, not decrease it.

Chris, you're killin' me with that pic of the pecan stuff, good thing I can't smell 'em thru the computer! I've been on a low carb diet and am staying away from that type stuff, but sure looks good, Sound's like you had a nice ride, I'm sure at 60mph it's comfortable. On the trip I just took it was amazing how comfortable it was in that old truck with windows and cowl vent open while cruising 55-60. Ken, that is crazy about the rain evaporating before it hits ground, but it makes sense, since the humidity is so low.

The more I think about Boiled fish the more times I've enjoyed it. We caught skinned and cut into chunks some trigger fish we caught off Bimini and tossed it in a pot with some Campbell chunky vegetable soup with Tabasco sauce and it was really good

Good morning everyone.

Up early and to the Awful house. Had a good visit with some guys. Now I'm home and have the whole day to myself.

The plan is to work on the truck today and get at least the front brakes done. It rained buckets yesterday so there's going to be no mowing.

Speaking of cruising in old cars, I bought a 59 Ford Skyliner from a guy in Chicago years ago. Flew up and drove home. Because I didn't know any better. Took the interstate the whole way home on tires that were xx years old. Who knew. Well, I did end up having tire trouble, the full wheel cover rotated in the rim and cut the valve stem and I got a flat on the rear. As I sat on the side of the road with no spare, Illinois State Patrol came up and gave me and my bad tire a lift to the next exit where there was a tire shop. They fixed the stem and I was on my way, with the four full wheel covers in the back seat. That was in September, and I had the top down most of the way.

My Granddad would say he only like two kinds of pie. Hot and cold.

Well this isn't getting anything done. Hope everyone has a good Saturday.

James - You can't go wrong with a good slice of Key Lime pie!

For me it's a tie between 3 items my wife makes.
1. Triple Chocolate Cherry Cake - Devils Food Cake with chocolate chips added to the cake mix, and a can of cherry pie filling substituted for some of the water. The cherry pie filling makes the cake super moist. The third chocolate item is chocolate fudge icing.
2. Banana Cake with cream cheese icing. She leaves the real bananas a little chunky which adds more flavor and makes the cake more moist.
3. The Caramel Pecan Sticky Rolls I posted the picture of.

The gal sure can cook and bake, it's a minor miracle I don't weigh 300-lbs.

Greg - Thanks for the compliment on my wife's sweet rolls, they taste just as good as they look! I'm glad your adventure in the old truck was not too uncomfortable without A/C! My riding buddy yesterday and I were texting later in the evening and we both admitted we had probably crossed a heat threshold for enjoyable riding yesterday, especially being out that long. I'm thinking low 90's, maybe 92 or 93 max. The 97 degrees with high humidity was just too much to be out in all day, with 4-hours of the time being in the heat of the day.

Good morning guys,
Mike - Good luck with the truck brakes, I hope you get at least the front done!

Just plain hot and sticky already at 1000, 87 degrees and 100 degree "Realfeal" with the humidity added in. Headed towards 95 with potential afternoon thunderstorms.

There are 2 cruise-ins near me this afternoon/evening, one starting at 3 and one at 6, and I had planned to hit both of them. The one starting at 6 is literally less than 2-miles from the house. With the intense heat I'm definitely skipping the earlier one and still planning to go to the 6 o'clock one if we don't get the thunderstorms. There are two judged shows tomorrow, one about 45-miles away and one about 55-miles away, I'm still twirling the idea around in my mind (like a rock tumbler) whether I really want to go and sit in this kind of heat, I'm leaning towards, NO.

Hope everyone has a great day!
