.SYNOPSIS... Strong high pressure will continue to hover over the region with Excessive Heat persisting into the weekend. Scattered afternoon thunderstorm development will also continue over higher terrain areas with the main impacts in lower elevation communities being strong, gusty winds and blowing dust. However, an area of low pressure will migrate northward out of Mexico over the weekend bringing significantly increased chances of thunderstorms and cooler temperatures to the entire area.

.DISCUSSION... Latest RAP analysis places the center of the Monsoon High along the Arizona/New Mexico border. This is resulting in a light southeasterly flow across central Arizona. Meanwhile, dewpoints in the upper 50s and lower 60s are running a few degrees higher than at this time yesterday. The high temperature has also eclipsed the 110 degree mark in Phoenix for the 29th consecutive day.
Showers and thunderstorms developed early across northern Arizona while satellite imagery reveals convection bubbling across the White Mountains. The latest HREF suggests this activity will build further south later today, particularly across Gila and Pinal Counties.
Latest ACARS KPHX sounding depicts a layer of relatively dry air near 800 mb, resulting in significant MLCIN across the lower deserts, similar to yesterday. However, temperatures remain relatively cool aloft, yielding steep mid-level lapse rates. There is a 60 percent chance of an outflow boundary reaching the Valley this evening from the northeast, but with abundant inhibition, only isolated convection is possible along the boundary. Nevertheless, there is a 30-50 percent chance the outflow boundary will produce wind gusts of 35+ mph across central Arizona and this is depicted well in the HRRR. There is an even higher likelihood of gusty winds further south across Pinal County this evening along with a 10 percent chance of severe wind gusts. Winds of this magnitude will also be capable of producing areas of blowing dust.
Glenn I'm a closet MOPAR guy. I always laugh when someone talks about their 727. I know it's a transmission but as an airplane mechanic I've worked on plenty of 727s of another type.
Never seen a 727 in real life but it must be very big Mike. Airplane mechanic sounds very intresting.

Glenn - Yes, I was born in 1959 also, November! I know what you mean about the body starting to feel older. One thing's for certain, I sure can't do what I used to be able to do when I was in my 20's and 30's.

Not supposed to be as hot today, only 97°, only. Chance of widely scattered showers mainly this afternoon and into the evening.
No big plans for today. Wife sold another dresser and the guy is coming to pick it up around noon. I'll have to check tomorrow's forecast, but I may try to go for a longer motorcycle ride tomorrow. I really haven't ridden anywhere yet this summer over 100-miles.
Went out to get takeout pizza. Sky was getting darker as I got home. I didn't know it but the severe thunderstorm warning sirens had went off in town which we can hear here. Maybe only 5-minutes after we started eating all hell broke loose. Plants, cushions, and chairs flying across the deck, dirt from the plant pots every f'ing where. If I'd known the sirens had went off I'd have set the wife's plants down off of the tables they were setting on or brought them inside. My wife apparently didn't see.the need??? Cushions from the couch and chairs blown away, but at least they stayed in the yard because of the fence, luckily. While the worst of it was going on a NWS bulletin came on my phone and said up to 80mph straight line winds, I believe it! Power went off briefly but is back on. Loss of power for an extended period is our greatest fear because having A/C is critical for the dogs. Of course Monty had a total freak out. What fun! It will be fun cleaning the deck up, I think I'll let my wife address that.

Soooooo Cool! I love it! The red wheels with the baby moons really set it off well. It looks really, really nice Greg! It's nice to see a recent picture of Buddy too. I can just picture you guys cruising around in that baby.
Just got back from Walmart and I have to rest now. Lots of people were there today and of course unmonitored kids runnng everywhere.

Went out to a party last night. A couple of friends of mine got married earlier in the month and had a cookout for some people. Saw some people I haven't seen in an age. Really nice time. When I got back to pick up Tiger, the lights were out and Mom said they had been out about an hour. This morning she said the power came back on about 415. It's sunny out and hot but there's a bit of a wind.
Gonna change oil in something this afternoon, several cars need it. How much fun will that be.
There you go, Glenn. Barely discernable under the windows up front is a decal touting the 1996 Olympics which were held in Atlanta. As far as size the 727 is a behemoth. But as far as passengers it was not a lot. Ours were 149 in two classes. I miss working on these. It wasn't terribly advanced and maintenance was usually straight forward.
Edit. When parked next to a 767 or other wide body the 727 does seem small. I guess it's all relative.

Known to the public as the "Whisper Jet" it was anything but a whisper jet. I flew many times on a 727 - twice, yep twice, had #2 engine flame out - BAM! Always fun to be on one. They were indeed workhorses when in operation.

Update on our storm yesterday. Lots of damage throughout the St. Louis area. Ameren reported at one time there were more than 100K people in the greater StL area without power. My youngest daughter is one of them and she has been without power for 20 hrs now. NWS station at the AP reported gusts in excess of 80mph. It was ugly. Did a walk around my place but didn't see any damage. My neighbor directly across the street had a large piece of fascia above his garage ripped off, and many other neighbors reporting damage of one kind or another. I got off easy!
Actually Norm the Whisper Jet name was not a Boeing name, it was what Eastern called all their fanned jets. Even with the hush kits, they were LOUD. I have never heard a DC8 or a 707 take off, I can imagine they are even louder.
Mike - 1969 I flew a DC-8 (Stretch 8) from NYC to Rome - exchange student for several months in Europe. As I recall the flight was something like 14 hours give or take whatever. Don't recall what year the DC-8 came out, but the Stretch version was relatively new - they were making a big deal of it regarding our flight.

I was 16 yrs old that summer (1969). Inside the plane it looked like it was as long as a football field I recall. I had been on planes previously, but that thing was really, really long.

I wasn't making any comparisons other than thinking back through time because AA191 was a DC-10 anyways. Still, I was absolutely devastated when it happened.
And, FWIW, I received my PP Cert in 1973 @ DPA. There was NOT the significant amount of air traffic even back in 1973 as has occurred over time. Point being - during my flight training @ DPA I became all too familiar w/ O'Hare (ORD) ATC and the outbound/inbound hand-off @ Aurora, IL to ORD. I landed on RW-32 once @ ORD. I recall it distinctively - I thought I was a big shot. I was w/ my flight instructor and hadn't achieved my PP Cert, as yet. Still, I thought the whole experience of landing @ ORD was F'ing awesome. BTW, RW-32 was the runway of AA191.
I realize I'm nothing more than a Chatty Kathy today, but I've been stir-crazy staying inside the past three days. The humidity coupled w/ the temperature has been far too oppressive to consider doing anything outdoors. On the very bright side, I've been following changes in the weather and the humidity and temperature are going to finally begin returning to some form of normal over the next 48 hours. Boeing had a retrofit facility in my hometown at the old Chennault AFB. I think they were modified 707s, and had water injection engines for additional thrust during takeoff. Those were abominably loud - I could hear them from nearly 10 miles away. My brother in law worked at the facility and told me they used 600 gallons of water during takeoff.
Many aircraft used water injection to increase thrust at takeoff. Regarding the 707 the USAF utilized basically the same method on the KC135 refueling tanker w/ J57 engines. Both KC135 & 707 developed from same prototype. The engine shop at Norton AFB where I was stationed was an enormous J57 military engine shop. Constant battery of engine run ups all day long. LOUD!
With the recent airplay of the NFL promo for the regular season opener between the Lions and Chiefs, I have been in contact again with the original owner of my car up in Michigan. He has been filling in some of the gaps of how the car was discovered and ended up in the pre-game segment on Monday Night Football in 2017. As part of this correspondence he sent me this picture of his Dad working on the car when they had it down to bare metal. I think it's a pretty cool photo! The President of our St. Louis Old's Club contacted me today and told me the recent promo aired several times today on NBC. He wanted me to write a heads-up story to send out to our members so they could be on the look out for the commercial and letting them know it is my car that is in it.

Yep, the aircraft at the retrofit facility were KC135s. I didn't say that originally as most folks are familiar with 707s but go blank if you say KC135.
Speaking of B52s, My Dad made a comment when we were at an air show at the AFB about the runway concrete flexing as the B52s taxied across. Years later I looked up the specs and found the runway was something like 24" thick. Wow, those B52s were massive.
That’s thick. B52 also had leading edge collapsible/trailing single wheels to distribute weight while on terra firma but the C5A was a whopper. Nearly 100,000 lbs heavier than a B52 (empty weight). Absolutely massive.

Airplane is intresting , last time we used a airplane i think it was a Airbus A310 but it was in 2001

Thanks for the nice comments on the truck, Yep I am really excited about it. The painter is the son of the guy who restored the Olds years ago. I was going to paint it myself but after the fiasco on the Olds wheels and other messes with painting I asked him if he could do it. Then he started on it and I could tell he was doing a better job than I really wanted. I would say "don't worry about that, just make it good- not perfect". But as I began to think about it, I realized that this truck (and anything he does as a body man) is a statement of his workmanship and abilities. So he didn't want it out there "halfassed". So he sweated the details and boy it is nice!! Those wheels are just regular 15" wheels off the 85 F150 engine donor. I rattle canned them red as a temporary thing to use until something better came along, then I found some dog dish hubcaps from a 57 or so Ford car and put them on. It is funny how the digital camera makes them look really nice. In real world they aren't that nice, with chips, etc. The spare mounts in front of left rear fender and will go back on. I think I will paint it red also.

Thanks Greg. I've got several other pics of the car during various states of restoration, but this new picture the Son sent me is the only one I have of his Dad actually working on the car. I think you're correct about not not putting enough miles on the car to wear out a set of tires. The most miles I've ever put on it in a season was ~1,700 last summer. I'll get those SSI's on there one of these days!
