Jim - We lost a nice guy from our golf group last year - he & me always had a side bet every game we played. After his passing we invited his wife to our putting green where most of our group assembled. We conducted a "Last Putt" in our friends remembrance. Each person had 30 seconds to say something (we encouraged irreverent, missive, derisive, cheeky, disparaging remarks or not). A nice way to say FORE. At the end, one person said so long to our playing partner w/ the Last Putt.
1st Ball = Nice launch angle, slight fade - pretty well struck.
2nd Ball = Smash-hit late draw way out there.
3rd Ball = Topped horribly bad - launched 20 feet and nearly dribbled as far. (Should likely keep my eye on the ball)
4th Ball - Smash-hit directly up the middle and out there.
Norm - Very nice ceremony for your buddy's wife! The other day I had mentioned I would have never excelled in sports if it wasn't for my Dad. Dad was a much better athlete than I ever was, being an All City, All Conference, All State performer in football, basketball, and baseball. He was the City scoring champion in basketball his Senior year ('54). He went to Western Michigan University in '55 on a full baseball scholarship, and was then drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals after his '56 season at Western. He spent 2 seasons in the.minors with the Cardinals, during which time he was dating my Mom. After those 2-years, Mom essentially gave him an ultimatum, quit baseball, come home and get married, or she was moving on with her life. So, he quit baseball, married Mom, and built a very successful career in the trucking industry, becoming Regional Manager of Spector Freight in southern Michigan. One problem, his job made huge demands on his time, and as his boys were approaching Jr. High/Highschool age, he didn't want to miss our activities. So at the age of 37, he quit the trucking industry, went back to Western full time to get finish his teaching degree, while working a full time job at the local Eaton Valve factory. I don't know how the man made it through, but he did! In '74 he started teaching PE and coaching at a school about 25-miles from where we lived, and I changed schools to follow him. I had to play JV football under him in the fall of '74 and played Varsity baseball under him in the Springs of '75 and '76. Playing under him was a blessing and a curse. He was a great coach, but he had to be much tougher on me than anyone else, I got it! My Senior year ('77) of baseball, he forfeited his Varsity baseball coaching position just because he didn't want anyone to think he influenced any accolades I might receive. He was, and always will be, my Hero!

Glad you're making good progress on the painting! What a coincidence about you starting school at 4 too! Curious as to whether you ever felt it was to your detriment being younger than most of your classmates as you went through school. It was never an issue for me academically, but since I was not a large boy to begin with, plus being a year younger and nerdy, I was a prime target for bullying. I was never one to pick a fight, but was taught early on not to shy away from one either if I was bullied. In the end, I think it made me tougher and more hard nosed, the road was just a little rockier!

Sorry to hear that, it sounds rough! I went to grade school and Highschool at a public school with a pretty easy curriculum and easy teachers. That really cost me in college when I chose to go to a private Liberal Arts College that really prided itself in it's academics. I still did fine, graduating with honors, but with substantial time devoted to football, the rest of my time was devoted to my studies. Let's just say there was not alot of time for the party scene.
There's a new member whose member name is Clutch Cargo. It brings back memories - watching Clutch Cargo, Spinner & PaddleFoot when I was seven & eight yrs. old.

It's been a rip-roarin' time this morning. Somehow, the shop air isn't working and we can't do anything. Welcome to Monday. What I don't know is if the entire building is without air or just the shop. Or the entire company!

I had already been working to change my Homeowner's Insurance policy, including wind & hail policy in early December. On the coast of NC you need two policies (Home Insurance = Dwellings, Personal Property, etc. & Hail & Windstorm).
Friday I get a notice from my current (soon to be previous) insurance company (Frontline) they are not going to renew my policies due to Exposure Management. After research, come to find out Frontline Insurance (First Protective Insurance Co) has sent notices to well over one million policy holders and is issuing Nonrenewal due to Exposure Management in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina & South Carolina. Argh....glad I began the leg work already and I have been in touch w/ my local insurance company.
Norm - That sucks about the Homeowner's Insurance! What a racket! Good luck finding a replacement that's a decent value.
Cold here this morning, 19° at 0900, and it's only supposed to get up to about 24°. As the temps were dropping late yesterday evening we got some freezing rain first and then a dusting of snow. When the freezing rain was coming down we heard on the Police scanner channel about dozens of accidents happening across the greater StL area. What a mess! Just glad we have no reason to have to be out in it this morning.
My wife does have another scan very early tomorrow morning, a lower GI flow test this time that will take ~4-hours to complete. I sure hope they get the roads nice and clear by then. It will be at the hospital closest to us, about 8-miles away, where my youngest daughter works. She is supposed to start at 0630, and the plan is for me to get her started there, then come home for awhile and care for the dogs, then go back when it gets close to time for her to be finished. During my time at the hospital I'll stop in and check out my daughter's new digs. She has her BSN, and works in their Educational Unit, teaching other nurses about new medical procedures and protocols. Her Unit recently moved into a newly rehabbed area with 3 new classrooms and an associated computer kiosk room. Her new personal office is also there directly adjacent to the classrooms.
Well, my KC Chiefs won their AFC Championship game yesterday on a field goal with only 8-seconds left and they are going to the Super Bowl. I'm super excited for them and me!
In my area you can't get regular fire insurance, almost everyone lost their insurance after the Camp fire. There is an alternate policy a viable through the state of California, but it is three times as expensive as our old policy was. I was notified that my policy for my place at Eagle Lake will be canceled at the end of next year and probably would have been this year but it is tied into the ranch policy and I'm thinking the insurance company may not have wanted to stir the pot and loose the ranch insurance also... Norm, I use USAA and I have found them to be merely OK. Merely OK is as good of a rating as I can give any insurance agent; I find them to be scum and in my top ten least favorite professions.
My grandmother's house (the one that caught the tree) was Foremost, which is a lower tier of Farmer's, and we had to go that way being unoccupied. The experience sucked. If that adjuster were to meet a bad end, I would think it deserved. Insurance companies are amongst the professions that dwell in the gray area of habitually screwing people, but doing it legally. They need Jesus.
Got our air back around 9. Then the computer's operating system decided to slow down to a crawl. I don't think we've signed 50 wheels in the shop this morning. I'm sure the lead will come up with a way to make it our fault. No excuses! That's okay, we have about an hour then it's time to hit the road.
Was just past the roll up door and it has quit raining, for now, but it's cloudy. But I'd say it's over 50. Still gonna be inside stuff when I get home because everything is a muddy mess.

Norm - Since you like Egg Foo Young, I'm wondering if you've ever had, and like, St. Paul Sandwiches? The Chinese restaurant we always get takeout from makes really good ones. I usually get the Ham, with the diced Ham and onion inside a very large Egg Foo Young patty, that's on white bread with a little mayo, lettuce, and dill pickle slices. Absolutely delicious!

Yes, you're correct. Supposedly an Asian chef in St. Louis at a restaurant named Park Chop Suey was the creator, and named the sandwich after his hometown of St. Paul, Minnesota. I just thought maybe the sandwiches might have caught on and spread outside of Missouri or the Midwest because they're so tasty. They come in a wide variety of combinations like shrimp, ham, chicken, and beef.

I loved Mr. Magoo, I thought he was the only Ebenezer Scrooge until I was told that "A Christmas Carol" was originally a play. Those old cartoons were great!
Do you guys pay to have your income tax returns done? I had a bunch of stuff in the last couple years (bought and sold houses. bought land-etc) , so I got ahold of a accountant and have been having him do them. Last year I looked at the tax return he filed and saw it was really easy - similar to the taxes I filed back when I was a young guy. I think I can do them on my own again. The accountant charged seems like $300. last year to file them. Any of you guys do your taxes yourself??
The computers are back to running quicker now, in fact a little quicker than normal. I'll take it. I've got 11 wheels signed off already, and I didn't even have that by lunch yesterday.
I used to watch this cartoon called Ricochet Rabbit. And Dastardly and Muttley. And one where the guy was a Canadian mounty I can't think of his name. And of course Winnie the Pooh. I'll watch that forever.
Norm I was going to tell you stippling was the wrong word for what I was trying to describe before. This is actually a sort of star pattern, almost looks like a snowflake. It looks dumb as hell. It's even in the closets. It would have taken less effort to properly do the seams than to do all that design making.

Greg - I used to do my own for years, but as I got older, and my investments became more complex and diverse, I started having them done. I have no doubt I could still do the Federal without issue, but the Missouri tax form for Married filing jointly is a real PIA. Without getting too far into the weeds, imagine having to take all your individually and joint income from all sources and being required to divide it into his/hers columns. The whole form is insanely cumbersome and complex. Just nuts!

Mike - I had never heard of Maid Rite, so I did a little search. There are 3 locations in Missouri, one in an Eastern suburbs of Kansas City, one in Rolla, and one in Hannibal, the boyhood home of Mark Twain. Now I've been to Hannibal probably 15-times, and riding there on my motorcycle along the Illinois River Road is one of my favorite rides. About a 3-hour ride taking the scenic route. I've walked all over that town and never noticed a Maid Rite. That's because it doesn't have Maid Rite on the sign, it's just called the Mark Twain Diner, but it is owned/operated by Maid Rite. There are a couple of other restaurants/micro-brewerys we really like to stop and have lunch at when we ride up there, but who knows, we may check it out one of these days.

Pretty early start this morning, got my wife to her medical appointment at 0630 and now I'm back home with the dogs until about 1030 when I'll head back to the hospital to pick her up. We got notices from the Eye Doctor's office our new glasses are ready for pick-up, and it's very close to the hospital, so we'll drop in there real quick on the way home and pick them up.

Yes, I have an accountant as I have income from employment and the stock market. I believe in paying good money for good help.
