Ah Ha! They're used in SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems. I've read enough about SCR & DEF tonight to put me to sleep. Maybe I'll figure out what the "regen" means tomorrow...

OK, before I hit the sack...I was thinking more about that SCR system and the removal of NO2. Since it's urea based - I should be able to **** in the fuel tank and call it a day?

Not unless you're a camel or can **** like one. Regen is something about quick cooking a catalyst to get it back in the green. Diesels have so much BS on them these days. I disagree with a lot of US pollution controls; instead of being spineless bitches that want to disarm America, the UN ought to go smack China and India around for their pollution because that's where the global problem is.

You ever had a late model diesel truck pass you hauling *** and it smells like a swimming pool? I have more than once. I assume it is the DEF.

Good morning everyone.

Slow going this morning. Eh, I'm not into it so I don't mind. Looks like a long day ahead of us.

Took Mom to the doctor yesterday. She needs to go back in 6 months, and they are worried about setting an appointment already. Who the hell knows what they are doing in 6 months? She told them the appointment needs to be as late in the day as possible, and they said how about 3. Nope, no good, I don't get home in time for that. Well, that's the best we can do. Mom finally shamed them into 345. I said, at this point in time, why don't doctors offices realize people work and can't get in for their unrealistic appointments? I just got an eye roll. One time they didn't want to give me a late appointment. The best I got was 345 and she said, that's the last appointment of the day don't be late. Archaic.

A friend of mine has a diesel Silverado. If he doesn't put DEF in it the computer goes into limp mode. I think I'll stick with my big block. Or get one of them M1009 Blazers(if I can find one).

Got another doctor's appointment to take Mom to today. This one is late in the afternoon. Some offices get it. Tiger has to stay home. With the dogmobile and the truck both down for the count, he can't go to Mom's. I don't want him to ride in the car. And Mom can't get in the Suburban. Geez I need to do something about that.

Okay have a good day everyone. I think it's Hump Day. Eh, all the days just run together anymore.

Mike,

I got a back seat hammock so my dogs could ride in the "good" car. It's easy to install and remove, and has worked great to keep the seats clean and also prevent the dogs from falling into the gap between the seats.

Systems are beginning to develop with regularity off the Northwest coast of Africa. I watch NOAA-NHC religiously beginning at the end of July every year. It's that time of season.

Kenneth - Agree 100%, had one for years now. Funny you brought that up, just put mine in this afternoon because both dogs have vet appointments early tomorrow morning.

"Blue DEF" is used by both domestic and foreign manufacturers. I'm pretty sure that you can buy the additive at dealerships and parts stores. Perhaps Jaylenne (spelled right?) can explain it to us as she gains the knowledge.

Norm, we've been getting hints that we might have a couple of heavy snow events this winter, I'll fire up the blower sometime in October, no need to rush.

Spent ~25' watching Blackie. He's now ~5'+. Common Black Rat Snake. He's always cruising my back yard. Pretty sure he's the only Black Rat Snake around my property. Earlier this spring he was ~3' - 3.5' - he appears to be finding plenty to eat in the 10 acres forested field in the back of my property.

I've spoken 2 guys in Texas the last few day. 1 A member of CO and another a friend of his, I am seriously flabbergasted at how nice/knowledgeable/approachable and HELPFUL they were. Beyond the great information shared here on a daily basis, the friendships formed are truly remarkable

I have personally met and or know all my Face book friends but feel more in tune with CO friends, Thus site /.organization is really something.

Jim - I agree, I find it amazing how friendly, supportive, and willing to share their knowledge, the vast majority of members are that frequent this site. All in all, definitely a fine class of folks!

Kenneth I've seen those hammocks but Tiger is not calm enough for one. Plus anywhere he goes, he sheds and doghair tumbleweeds are everywhere, despite what I try. It's easier to just not have him in the car.

Jamesbo I pretty much stick to CO when I have a non-Oldsmobile question. I get the best advice/answers here without any pretense.

Back from the doctor and we also went to Awful house for dinner. The evening server these days is a nice gal but she never shuts up. I swear my ears are bleeding when we leave.

So Dragon Con is this weekend in Atlanta. A former girlfriend/lady friend of mine is big into that stuff. For those who might not know, Dragon Con is a big to-do where you dress like a freak and go listen to William Shatner. This girl I know dresses as hobbits. Whatever. She ghosted me before that was even a thing. I should look up her reservation and flights and cancel her tickets. Heck, ghosts don't need an airplane.

Gotta go home and take care of Tiger. He's sure a good boy staying home and not fussing. He's used to coming with me to Mom's and I hate that he can't come with me. Eh, this too shall pass. Have a good evening everyone.

Good evening guys,

Didn't do a whole heck of alot today. The weather was pretty and high 80's. Got out this afternoon and rolled around on the garage floor a bit. Last time I had my Indian out for a ride about a week ago it told me both tires were about 3 or 4-lbs. low (bike has on board pressure sensors). I was going to be riding slow and easy that day so I just went with it, but swore to myself I'd get it aired up before I got on it again. Also figured if the Indian was a little low, the Yamaha might be too, so I checked it, and yep, about the same, so they both got the treatment. While doing this, I noticed my compressor hose is starting to crack badly. It's the original hose that came with my dual tank Craftsman compressor that I've had for 13-years. Will start looking online for a replacement ASAP.

The weather is looking great right now for cruise-ins on both Friday and Saturday evenings. I'm always excited about getting my car out to an event/s on the weekends!

Hope everyone has had a great day!

Gonna have to rebuild the carb on the 300 6 again. 3rd time. I'm pretty sure the off the shelf kits I am getting are not ethanol tolerant. Old truck runs great for about a year after rebuild then suddenly starts to idle rough, stink gassy, and get wet around bottom of carb. Last kit I got was a original Ford Motorcraft off ebay. Now I am looking at "ethanol tolerant" kits. You guys ever dealt with this? A buddy and I are going to take old truck down to Indiana for the Ducktail Run, so gotta get it fixed soon. Took Olds on 27 Motor tour and it did great. A really great time, just a little rain, no great deluges like usual...

Greg - I would suggest running Sta-Bil 360° year round in your Cutlass and the old truck. In addition to stabilizing the fuel like regular Sta-Bil, it is also is suppossed to neutralize the harmful effects of ethanol, plus clean your fuel system. I add it to my 4-4-2 and motorcycles at every fill-up and have never had a problem with the fuel system in any of the vehicles. I buy it in the larger 32-oz. bottles and it's not real expensive. I swear by it!

Two weeks ago, I finally got the extra set of keys cut that I had purchased from Fusicks. Stupid kid at the local hardware store cut the octagon head blank with the rounded head original, and vice versa for the other key. Goddammit. Well, at least I finally have a spare set.

How in the hell do you even do that??? That's the whole reason they have different shaped heads? Hard to get good help these days for sure! Ya just can't fix stupid!

Hi everyone.

Winding down for the afternoon. We've hit our number, but the work continues so we can get out early tomorrow and not work over the weekend. I'm waiting on a couple of big wheels to fill then I'll sign them off and hit the road.

Jeff are both the keys the same blank? Sometimes the bottom groove is on the opposite side. Maybe you could take a grinder and redo the heads so they are square and round like they're supposed to be.

John I went with this girl once to Dragon Con. It was rather disturbing. No I did not dress up. Not sure what Con Stench is but it doesn't sound pleasant. Maybe it's like the furball convention when everyone puts **** on themselves and calls it "pheromones."

I'm always tempted to use that Stabil stuff but never have. Some of my wrecks sit for years and they usually start up with some fresh gas mixed in. I didn't say they run well.

Greg good luck with the carb. We've only been using ethanol fuel for how many decades? Why don't the carb kit people use materials that are compatible with today's fuels? Because they want you as a repeat customer.

No errands after work today, and I thought I'd try to take the dogmobile to Mom's so Tiger can come with. So it only has second gear. I did 60 on the expressway in second, doing 40 for three miles shouldn't be too tough.

Okay have a good afternoon everyone. The highpoint of the day is upon us. Going home.

I like stabil, but I try to use ethanol free gas in the first place. I also use the tru power 50 to 1 premix stuff in my 2 cycles.

Con stench is when a bunch of people who have questionable hygiene skills to begin with go on a road trip with limited clothing and sleep like 6 to a hotel room and don't really have time for things like showers and consider deodorant optional. It's worse if they wear costumes. Put them outside in lines in the heat then bring them into a convention center and the whole place just smells like a soiled locker room left to sit for two weeks without AC. It's so bad that some cons just have staff with a bin full of promotional Axe body spray cans in travel size and they hand them out, extras if needed, to everyone, especially the stinky ones.

I wish I could find ethanol free gas in my area, I'd use it if I could find it. I've searched every way I know how and can't find any in the greater St. Louis area, including on the Illinois side of the river.

Chris, ethanol free gas is frequently marketed as recreational gas, that might help in your search.

Chris look at pure-gas.org Put in your state and it gives a list of all the stations in the state that have ethanol-free gas. Or go to gasbuddy.com and put in your zip code and it lists stations and their prices, and you can search for ethanol-free gas. Be prepared: around me the non-ethanal is a buck or better more than the regular stuff.

Kenneth the temp thing in my car doesn't even go that high when it sits out in the sun at work all day. I got in the car this afternoon it said 103. After a couple minutes of driving it went down to 90.

John that is the grossest thing I've heard today. And I don't doubt it in the least.

Jamesbo my neighbor wanted to put in a generator and I asked him if he'd put on it some outside outlets. He said why, I said so I could run an extention cord. We actually don't have enough power outages to warrant a generator I don't think, but I would like to have a tornado room. We get quite a few heavy storms down this way and I think it would come in handy some time. To date I haven't needed one, but that doesn't mean I won't need one tomorrow. (hope not)

Mike - Both good suggestions, thanks! I've used the Pure-gas App before and there are no stations offering ethanol free gas in the greater St. Louis area. It did list one just across the river in Illinois, but when I called to double check they said they had discontinued it. If you go about 80 to 100-miles in any direction from me you can find it in other parts of Missouri. I'm betting there are local ordinances around me that prohibit its sale for some reason. I've used gas buddy before too, but just to check prices, and what grades different stations have because I won't put anything in the 4-4-2 but 93 Octane, and nothing less than 91 in the motorcycles.

I looked up ethanol free stations in my area and found this comment for one of the stations:

95 and 98 are lead free and alky free. Sold in 5gal sealed containers for about $60ea with tax. Not cheap, but available. Also sells 110 leaded pumped by the gallon for a bit less per gallon, so bring your own cans for 110.

Seems odd that the 110 is cheaper per gallon than the 95 and 98. That must be a really nice sealed container for the 95 and 98.
