Marshall Dillon

Marshall Dillon has died. I am sure there are a lot of younger folks on here that have no idea who he was. He was 6'6". He was 88.

RIP Matt

James Arness (sp)? That was a good show. That and Bonanza. I even have some Bonanza DVD's If they remake the show now, it will be an East Indian Marshall, Mahat Dhillion.

Well I suppose Miss Kitty, Chester and Festus will be pallbears. Oh wait they're dead too.

So why do cowboys die with their boots on?

So, they don't stub their toe when they kick the bucket!

Back in the day when a role model for young boys would open the door for a woman. Today they curse at women and spout violence against them, then call it music. Yes, Marshall Dillon will be missed. John

I knew he was 'The Thing' in the original movie and today I also learned (although I had forgotten) that Peter Graves of 'Mission Impossible' fame was his brother. It's a shame we lost another classic.

I loved that show. It was one of the few that 'Ma' would let us watch on the new fangled television. Black and white didn't matter. We used to live for Matt telling Festus to do something, and the retort "Waaaaaallll, Maaaaarrrsshalllll Diillon, yeeeewwww shuuuurre otttta not be doooon nat!"

RIP Mat Dillion (James Arness) Till we meet agin

He was the last of the original cast. I remember seeing the very first episode when it came on in 1955. It actually had a warning that no one under 16 should see the show due to the violence. Times have changed.

Just for the trivia:

(!.) Who played the original deputy and what was his name on the show and

(2.) What other actor was on the show and played a blacksmith and went on to bigger roles in the movies

Jamesbro and Citcapp will know this for sure and can't answer - too easy for you guys

Gunsmoke

Not to nitpick, but Chester was not a deputy. He worked for Mr. Dillon. Festus was a a regular for a long time before becoming a deputy U.S. marshal. Newley was deputized from time to time but was a gunsmith by trade. Thanks/Joe Clarke.

It is a sad moment. For those of us old enough to remember watching this and other westerns when we were young in the fifties and sixties it reminds us of our own advancing age. That was the golden years for television westerns for sure.
