Lone Star Roundup was this past weekend in Austin. Always an amazing weekend for gearheads, even though the weather was sketchy and I was too busy with other things to get out much. The event itself is just the start, with tons of great music in the clubs, garage parties and meet-ups all over town. Makes me want an older stable mate for the 69. The number and variety of cars is overwhelming including a few Olds, and also saw a 455 powering a rat rod or two. The coolest car I saw was a pretty rough but mostly original 37 V12 Lincoln Zephyr coupe that the owner drove all the way from San Diego for the event. Fine line between brave and crazy
.
Also a reminder to be careful out there. Friend, shop owner and all round good guy Mercury Charlie was in a serious accident going home from the show on Friday night. He was ejected and has lots of fractures but is expected to recover. The 56 Merc he was driving was basically split in two and burned, but luckily not his pride and joy 51 Nadine. I went to his Sunday garage party which was still held and turned into a benefit of sorts.
