Life just took a left turn.
Over the last month have had a bunch of medical tests. Started with a UTI and because I have had a history of kidney stones they wanted to make sure there was no blockage. Instead they found kidney cancer. I go in for surgery in August. The good news is they caught it very early, it is only about 1 1/2 cm. About the same size as the end of my small finger. They only will have to remove a part of my right kidney. I am only 54 was not expecting this but feeling lucky that they found it as early as they did. It does put things in perspective.

Larry, I was being evaluated is a possible kidney donor and they found a aprx. ping pong ball size growth on my left kidney. Sounds similar to your situation. It was cancerous and I had it removed. They check for clear margin around the tumor when it is removed. Mine had the clear margin, which I understand to mean I am cancer free. However one you had it ,it means you are susceptible to get it again. So I have to be checked again a year from the operation. But in both our cases this is the best way to find out about it. Most people never know until the tumor is so large it is causing a problem. I was 64 when had it removed and it was really no problem, I'm sure you will have a good outcome also. Keep us posted.

I had a similar experience with a colonoscopy. They took out a foot and felt I was clear after that. But....as stated once you have had it you may have future concerns. Good to remember that each day is a gift not to be wasted. It sure sounds like you are lucky that it was caught early and you will be fine. Nowadays I worry more about getting caught in a mass shooting that cancer. I'll be thinking about you.

When mine was discovered, they just went and took the hole kidney, it was cancer and they got it all they said, did not have to do any treatment. They make me get a C scan every 6 months. They also now with a kidney DR. She told me, even though you can live with one, at best only have about 40 percent use at the best, Never as good as having two. Also said I need to watch my beer drinking, that's no fun.

Larry---sorry to hear about your story but let's find the silver lining. It was found early and treatment is available! I choose to believe the glass is still half full.
I will be praying for you and your journey! Hang in there. God is not surprised at all by these events.

It was found so early and is so small there is no danger in putting off for a short time. I own my own business so August works better for me. In fact one of my options was wait 6 months and see what it was doing. Wasn't interested in that. So that is why it is in August

Had a great aunt from Indiana, I remember her telling the story that she was doing her ironing in the kitchen when she felt a pain she said it felt like something dropped out of her !! I don't know what the complete diag. was but I do know they took one of her kidneys that was when she was in her 60's she lived to be 101 !!!!! You got this, hopes for a speedy recovery !!!!!

Out of surgery came through really pretty well. Hopefully will be released later this afternoon. Then 4 weeks of looking for parts for the cutlass and dreaming of all the things I want to do.

Brother I can mention I just retired from that business and may say : Your there to get well not there to rest. Not the right thing to say at your moment in time, but it's true. Best of luck on your recovery.

He's right. Last time I was in one I had a hot chick nurse washing my johnson, and I had no response, I was so injured.

Amen. I so get it. I spent every day of the summer Olympics in 1984 on/in a bed. I lied to keep my leg. Stay strong. Keep being you. Hospital's do suck but the people around you really do care about you. They want the best for you.
