If your kids baby sit.....

Time for a little rant.

If your kids baby sit please remind they don't get $7-8/hr tax free to sit on the couch texting the whole time. It's a job. For most of them, it's their first job. Sadly for some it may be their last (at least working for me).

end of rant......

How old is your oldest? although I agree with you the issue is we just raised a generation of kids who know nothing but gaming - rather spend their time in a dark room playing against people they will never meet. We are now raising a new generation of kids who won't know how to speak - they text the kid standing next to them. scary isn't it

By the way 6- 7 an hour is cheap - cost almost double that in Chicago

We have a three year old and a nine year old. Both are really well behaved, especially if they get a little attention. We live in the middle of nowhere. We pay $7 per hour if I have to go pick them up and drop them off and $8/hr if they drive. Dinner out is usually a minimum of 6 hours and we usually round up to the nearest $5.

BTW, if I was working in Chicago I'd be getting paid twice what I do too

I wish it was that easy. She was texting on her phone the whole time, not using my internet

When we had are kids babysat, we found 2 great babysitters. They played and read to the kids. After they put the kids to bed they could talk on the phone or do homework. They were both older 17 to 20. My daughter does some babysitting in college 2 kids $10 an hour. Those kids keep trying to get their parents to go out so Rosalie can come over and play.

How old is your babysitter? We always had better luck with older girls. The best one lived accross the street which was handy.

We expect the exact thing you do. This baby sitter was 16 or 17 but didn't drive yet. We have a 14 year old, 20 year old, and a 22 year old that babysit for us and are all excellent but the older two are not available much anymore because they both have full time jobs and go to college too.

I took almost a 40% pay cut to move here. It's all relative

Yeah that is a problem. The good ones always are motivated and have a life.

Much happier. Our kids are doing really well here. The property taxes are crazy but the schools are great. Housing drives salary. We bought a house for 1/2 what we sold our house in Boston for. Taxes are 30% higher though for a comparable house but it's a much better place to bring up kids.
