Im at the Blacktop Cruisers car show in Rochester Indiana.

A guy noticed all the event stickers in my windshield, events like the Car Craft Summer Nationals, many Power Tours, Drag Week, etc. He comments I have lots of history with this car. I tell him I have had this car since I was 17. He then asks the “Did you buy it new?” question. 🙄😡

My car is older than I am.

As I mentioned, I have gray hair. It took awhile but I have come to embrace “geezerhood”. However, I don’t think I look anywhere near 65-70 years old!!! Assuming I was 16 in 1969, I would need to have been born in 1953ish.

 

As a white haired 76-year-old, all I can tell you is to pay no attention and get used to it. Just be glad you still have hair. My 55-year-old son would love to have my hair. Most people are not too good at judging age and the guy was probably just making conversation. Get ready to get you a Hawaiin shirt and join the old geezers club.

 

Same here, for quite a few years! I am 53 now and my car is 52.

I cheat a little. We reuse my name in my family, so my name is on some order forms before I was born when it was used by a previous gentleman.

 

I am grateful for having hair, (for that matter, good health) even if it is showing my age. Every day a blessing, whether we realize it or not.

 

One good thing about my 1966 is that I am 17 when driving/racing it.

Old age is relative to how you feel right now, sometimes I'm 106 other times 60, but in my mind's eye I am still 17. Now if I could only get the three to agree, it sure would be easier to plan the rest of my life....Tedd

 

Tedd, at 76 I relate to what you are saying. You were 17 in the Miata yesterday. When I use a creeper and then have to get off it, I realize my age and that I don't weigh 145 pounds anymore. Keep on going, you are doing well.

 

I have always said I don’t care what color my hair is, as long as it’s there. So life has treated me well with that.

I always described myself as salt and pepper. My big wake up call was about 5 years ago. Remember the little cartoon characters to represent yourself on Facebook? It’s kinda faded away, but a few years ago it was popular.

Anyway, I’m not very “with it” when it comes to technology. A woman I worked with offered to set up my cartoon character for me. When she selected the white hair instead of the salt and pepper was when I realized there is little pepper!!

And I agree with feeling the onset of getting older. I’d did not bother me in the least to crawl around on the garage floor all day when I was 20. Now it hurts like hell for days after.

I have always called my Olds my “therapy”, if I’m having a rotten day, a drive usually helps. Life is too short to not enjoy the simple things.

My car is no longer my daily driver. But if the weather is nice, I’m driving it.

Im kinda glad to hear other having this happen to them. What amuses me most is the guy that asked me if I bought it new was at least 70, and driving a mid 80s El Camino. He was old enough to have a little perspective on the age of the car.

 

A bunch of our friends got together this summer at the place we all worked at 30 years ago. I dyed my hair and goatee a few days before, and I got a ton of, "OH MY GOD, YOU STILL LOOK THE SAME!" comments. The Just For Men is a cheap investment for a few weeks of looking young again! 🤣

 

Old age is a privileged many don't receive

 

Unfortunately, this is true.

 

LOL a fews years ago at a family get together, in front of my little 5 year old great nephew I said something about me having gray hair. He quickly corrected me and said "Uncle, your hair is WHITE"

It's not the year, it's the mileage that counts when it comes to your body !

 

When my son was just born, & my daughter about 2, she once commented, Grandpa doesn't have his hair yet, just like Danny.

 

My head hair is intermittent, my beard comes in like Santa Claus, and salt and pepper is something I put on hash browns and eggs. Good thing I am not vain...Tedd
