Headlight conversion on older GM cars / trucks
OK here are the pics
First two pics are the factory style 4656 headlights, the second two are the new H4 headlights with standard 55 watt bulbs.
Hi beams are NOT used at all in these pics

And here's is the trick:
Newegg.com IJDMToy heavy duty wiring harness $11 for the pair
H4 wiring
And you might as well pick up the H1 wiring here I haven't bought this yet. The headlight conversion has a grounding prong on the back of the headlight
Follow this diagram:
Then take a small flat head screwdriver and push the tab on the prong flat and the tab slides out of the housing very easy. Switch them, and your good to go. On these tabs, white is the low beam, blue the high beam, and black is the ground.
These are hi heat cermaic plugs. Supposed to protect factory wiring from melting due to the higher heat that higher wattage bulbs generate.
Too soo to tell if the wiring is going to be okay or not

I had the SilverStar 4656 and 4651 in my old Delta. They worked pretty good, but they are getting a little hard to find. Plus with the headlights I got in the conversion, they look like regular headlights. Not those clear eBay speicals that look like crap on older cars
When these bulbs go, I'll probably get the Silver Star bulbs

H4 conversions have been out for a while. If you have a quality housing like Hella and want the brightest, order H4 HID headlights in 5000K. (This color is the whitest and closest to sunlight, i.e 6000K-8000K is the blue HID headlights you see in some high end cars.)

I don't like the HID's I had them on my Alero before I switched over to the Euro headlights (which have different bulbs than American spec headlights) and I wasn't too crazy about them. Mainly the time they took to light up

I would like to do this to my delta. The only thing i'm trying to figure out is how to do this conversion? The wiring will be a piece of cake. But how Do i go about mounting these standard bulbs?
The stock 4656 is a sealed halogen bulb, whereas the H4 is the newer type of bulb that sits in a headlight assembly.
How did you convert it? Did you use late 80's-90 chevy caprice light assemblys? Or is it a kit you bought?
My stock lights cant compete with the headlights in newer cars these days, I have to drive with my hi-beams on most of the time to avoid getting blinded by other drivers. ts time for an upgrade.

The headlight is a housing that holds the H4 and H1 bulbs inside them.
They say so that you'll only have to replace the bulbs when the time comes, but looking at it and the way they are sealed, that's not going to happen if you want it sealed right

If you can find Cibie rectangular headlights, then go that route...I was going to buy a set for my Regency but decided against it because it was a winter beater. I put H4 and H1 headlights in my '68 442 about 39 years ago... Where have you guys been???
