Frozen, snowed in sence the 23 of feb

I've been off-line for a while because of snow. I have three of my cars that probably will be snowed in for a couple to three weeks or longer, that is if it will quit snowing. Just got the house water going after 7 days. My juice just came back on yesterday evening, lost almost every thing in the fridge, pipes frozen, 4 feet of snow and weather reports say hang on there is more coming. The challenge is no more fun ,I can't even walk to the plowed road, I sink to my crotch and my legs don't work in that configuration. When I was young this was fun, not so much now. I'll try and get some pictures up if I can get them to download, been having trouble with that too. I'm looking for ward to spring...Tedd

You can blame that furry lil critter in PA for the extended winter.

Tedd - You might have seen it, I just posted today wondering and worrying about how you were doing! I knew you had got a $hit-ton of snow. How are you on food and drinkable water? I remember when we would get snowbound for many days during Michigan winters when I was young, folks would.organize snowmobile brigades to check on folks and make sure they are alright. I'm sure there is someone who can get to you if you need necessities! Please contact one of us if you need someone on here to help you make contact with an agency helping to provide assistance/relief! I'm volunteering if you need any assistance.

Y'all please bear with me (no pun towards Tedd intended) as I live in a hot environment.
How is it during a snow sock-in the refrigerator items go bad? Can't you put stuff in the garage / on the porch and take advantage of the natural cooling?

And with all that snow I'd think a lack of drinking water would not be an issue - just grab a handful of snow.

But as I said, I live in the hot desert where we don't get exposed to these things.

This time was the perfect storm for me, I got caught with only a couple of gallons of drinkable water, I usually have that plus a 5 gal of bottle water in the garage in a dispenser but I forgot to fill it up from last time, my bad, no excuse, I have 15-20 cords of wood at the ranch but no way for anyone to be able to haul it to my place with 4 foot of snow on the flat and there is nothing flat around here so this time I'm almost out of wood. Bad planning on my part. These storms don't usually last this long and aren't this cold, but in 35 years this is the worst. There is usually melt water coming off the eves to catch, but much too cold this time. Help if I was really in serious trouble, neighbors and family or 911are a phone call away I'm pretty independent, but that is always an option, so far I haven't missed any meals and the plan is not to do so. I'm just pissed, cold and the dogs aren't very good conservationist, bored is an understatement.I'll get over it, remind me when it's 105 degrees this summer. Tedd

Tedd, wow that is hell. Sounds like you are a tough ole guy and will make it. As Chris said, I also remember snow storms over the years here in Michigan- difference is people in Mi are prepared for snow have equipment to move it, etc - in California not so much. Please take it easy in the crotch deep snow the exertion to try to get around it that can cause a heart attack even for a healthy guy like you. Keep us informed when you have time.

Update... I found, with the help of a neighbor, a guy that has a Skidder with a bucket and will plow my driveway for a few hundred bucks. Made my day. He is trying to find someone else that needs a driveway plowed to off set his travel time and I found someone so maybe I will be free at last.... Happy camper ...Tedd

Update! This is truly the Mother of all snow storms, weather report shows another 5 or 6 more days of rain in the valley which will probably be snow here, not sure where we will stack it.
I finally, with neighbors help, freed up the ranch pickup and made it to the post office but I still can't drive it up to the house, just too much new snow. Legs are getting stronger from slugging through the snow so all this extra work is good for something. Miata needs attention as the snow has piles up so high that I'm afraid the top will smash if it gets anymore, removed the snow once already.
Neighbors sure have been good, all have been in contact with offers of help if needed. I can honestly say all my neighbors are good people something I couldn't always have said. Hope for rain to get rid of this white stuff, this is without a doubt the most and longest snow weather I have ever had in the 35 years of living here...Tedd

LOST MY DECK!!! A full 52 feet collapses and fell 18 feet to the ground. We received another foot last night, snowing a little right now. Will it never end? Weather report says it will be another 3 days of snow.... Tedd

Wow, sorry to hear. I was watching some national news that showed the snow several feet OVER the big DOT snowblower that are in use out there. The roads were carved into snow that looked to be about 12ft deep. Hang in there, Tedd.

Tedd - So sorry to hear about the deck! Just please be careful with your own safety and health. Even coming from Michigan I can't imagine the kind of snow you're getting! It must seem like Armageddon!!!

My, by inheritance, Shepard was in the midst of going through the doggie door and was caught 1/2 in and 1/2 out, I had to drag her in inside by her collar when the deck fell out from under her. Two seconds later and she would have gone down with the deck. If that wasn't enough drama when clearing off the snow build up (5 feet) on the Miata I got stuck in a snow hole ended up on my back like a turtle and had to call my neighbor to fish me out with my cell phone, embarrassing. Is it spring yet I've had enough of this winter...Tedd

Isn't that very unusual for your area's?

Last year in Denver we really didn't get a real snow until near Christmas. We have had a few storms this year but the cold has been no joke. March is generally our heaviest month for snow.

Wow! What a mess to deal with Tedd! I hope any floods don't affect your area as the forecaster is predicting a pineapple express.

I lost my dog kennel when the deck collapsed and now that inherited Shepard is going around harassing my neighbors every time I let her out to go potty. She isn't mean but barks constantly and won't come when called. To keep peace in the neighborhood she may have to go. Apologies to the neighbors will only go so far and if they feel as pissed off as much as I do she may get shot.... Tedd

Tedd, get 50 feet of polypropylene rope to tie her out. Those excursions around the neighborhood could bring you the blessing of a litter of pups.

When others let you down, your canine companion will always stick with you. But, in return, they need you to stick with them. With just a little work, he or she will learn to come when called.

With a Shepard, I'd prefer chain. But whatever is handy will work.

Hang in there Ted. I lived through the blizzard of '78 here in NE Indiana, but that doesn't hold a candle to what you've been getting out there. I can't even imagine. If there is any silver in the lining to this is that this will put a good dent in the draught conditions there. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean squat now.

Finding other snow related damage, My neighbor told me he thinks my pump house has lost its roof. I haven't seen it yet, but will tomorrow. If it rains all night there is a good chance I'll be able to get up to my house with the ranch 4x4, it's a lousy snow rig because of the street tires it wears, but it's still a 4x4, I'll see tomorrow, lots of snow has melted....Tedd

I can't speak for Boston, but it's very unusual for Maryland. I mean we don't get buried like I used to see in PA, in fact my wife and I would laugh when schools would close down here when there was a threat of snow.
We used to get 2-3 storms a season with at least 6 inches of snow. But for the last few years little to nothing. Now that I think of it, this winter, we've only had 3 days where the temps got down to the 20s.

A time to get snow, a time to thaw,
A time to bitch, a time to moan,
A time to disregard law,
A time to let the law dig you out.

My neighbors' son came over to see my collapsed deck, the first time he has been In the living room. My walls have a few of my trophy heads hanging on them. I don't know if he was admiring them or afraid of them. Some do, some don't.

Heavy rain all night, snow is slowly melting, maybe only a couple of feet on the flat. I can see most all of the Miata, might start it up and let the heater dry it out. It got caught without a car cover, first time she has been treated so poorly while I have had her.... Tedd

After I dug on it for a while and got it out of the pile it was hiding in, let it idle with the heater on, I took it for a ride to the post office and got my mail.
Heated up on the way home, always something. Worried about a head gasket but No oil in the water and steam only from radiator overflow cap ,hoses look good, should be there new and so is the radiator. It's still raining and getting dark so no further inspection till tomorrow. Sure was good to drive something other than a truck...Tedd

I found the reason for the heating up issue, much relief, the radiator to overflow jug had come off and coolant was dumping on the ground rather of returning to the jug. I put about 50 fun miles going to Chico and back, trying to get it to overheat, not a problem... Tedd

I'm having trouble with the AAA appraiser getting back to me. I would like to get started at least with the paper work and a list of the property damaged before spring. My two back sliders are the only back way out of the house and it's a 15-foot drop from the slider to the ground. My car port is flat on the ground and the skidder pushed everything into a wad when clearing the driveway, he didn't know it was under all the snow. I could use the carport it right now as I have the Miata only protected with a car cover, and it's raining big time.... Tedd

Tedd, put those slider latches under tape on the inside in case you get on a bender and decide to pee off the non-existent deck.

Thanks Koda, but I already have them locked and a piano bench in front of the slider in the living room for absent-minded guests, I do miss the pleasure of peeing off the deck though. For some reason the dog still wants to be let out at the doggie door that goes to nowhere, not the smartest tack in the box. Snow is about 2/3 gone, still raining...Tedd

BIG KICK IN THE SACK!!!!~I found out today that my AAA homeowners policy does not cover my deck when it is damaged by snow load! Too early to do anything till I get figures, bids and such, but I hadn't planed on this added cost in my budget at this time, who does?
