I have gone to the dark side and bought a new toy that is non Oldsmobile.

In my younger days I had and raced British sports cars, mostly Bug Eye Sprites and MG Midgets I'm not as enamored now with British cars as I was back in the sisties because they always broke or the electric went out but I still like my sports cars small and cute . Back in the day I was a big lad and filled up a Bug Eye pretty much to the brim. Not much has changed a half a century later except I need more brim.

I found this 91 Miata on Craigs List a few days ago with the old saying belongs to a 80 year old lady always garaged, driven little to church, can't push the clutch any more low miles must sell and I couldn't resist a look... Fell in love all over again... Needs a shoe horn to get in with the top up and it is full everywhere when I do make it, but I love it.

The car is pretty much pristine everywhere all records are there, paint is immaculate, top looks new( replaced a few years ago)with new tires oh and of coarse it's resale red in color.Bought it on the spot.

I paid $3,250 for it and it probably saved me $25,000 because I was looking at a 1935 four door Oldsmobile project car that would have taken five years and all my money to complete If it ever would have been completed by me.So I'm a happy camper. The ex-Mrs. and I had a nice Mariner (Superman) Blue '90 5 speed back in 1998-99. That was one fun little car. Enjoy it.

Around here that would be a candidate for an LS swap. That's a cheap price for fun, enjoy.

 

Wow. Why can't I find deals like that? With Virginia International Raceway so close by, Miata run kind of expensive in these parts.


I get this nutty notion every so often about an MGB or Spitfire, maybe even a TR6- knowing full well about the intense maintenance these cars often demand. A Miata would be the sensible approach if I wanted a roadster. But, there's two really competent British car shops here, so the BL cars wouldn't be completely heinous to live with.

 

My Aunt has one bought one the first year they came out. She loves it and at 79 she can still push in the clutch. With over 150,000 she has driven alot farther to church than your owner. My father has an 02 for a dd, also loves it.

Winner. All the fun without Lucas electronics and rust. Nice 1st and 2nd gen Miatas are getting hard to find and ignore the occasional homophobe comments from the idiots who don't get it.

 

Ya, and no rainbow sticker on my rear bumper, any of them. Miatas are few and far between in the Chico area but a hundred miles south there are literally dozens to be had, they must of had a few active dealerships there. The hard part is finding one that hasn't been thrashed on a track buy some crazy teenager or left with the top down for a few seasons to age. There are bunches of beaters and parts cars. I was very lucky to find this one it had been advertised for more than two weeks before I call about it,( at that time I was thinking about a Bug Eye) and it took a week before we could get together with a time that would work for both of us. It appears that it is everything it was advertised to be, time will tell..... Tedd

 

Had a 77 MGB that was my daily driver for eleven years. But with being 6' 5" and a bad back and messed up knee the car had to go. Ford F-150 is my daily driver along with my grandfathers 40 Ford coup and my 55 Olds 4 door sedan that I am restoring. I do miss the English cars but the body is not so forgiving.

 

The payment for your sin is to hand me your keys to that 55 their sir.A fellow 88 owner will take care of her while you and wife Cruise into the sun set😊.Nice find start planning trips to get the most drop top time.😁

 

Although the wife is not into the 55 my interest is to finish this ride as the last car I will do before I go to the great garage in the sky.

If you have a 40 Ford coupe, I can't imagine wanting an English car. In my opinion, the 40 Ford is the prettiest car Ford ever made.

Sorry for getting off track on this thread. Tedd, I think you did real well on buying that car and you and you wife will enjoy it. You will probably have to pack a little lighter than you do on the road trips in your Olds. You will probably be limited to a toothbrush and change of underwear.

 

I remember that someone was doing Miata's with the 302 conversion many years back, and marketed them as "Monster Miata's". I saw another one at a car show about 3-4 years ago that looked completely stock, but as I walked around it from behind, I saw Sparco racing harnesses inside, then stepped around to the front, where an LSX resided in the engine compartment. Damn, talk about hold on!

 

NA no problem. Fun little cars. I don't think I could fit in one. Great aftermarket for them too.

 

It is a tight fit getting in, I'm a 6 footer and around 250lb's and I'm sure it is a bit comical seeing me inter and exit that thing but once in I'm OK with it. Trips have already been discussed, wife loves the fact it has AC and that alone has saved me a bunch of dough not having to alter and change over the 55 though I love road trips with the Mistress.

A mechanic friend I know wife's has a new turbo charged one said he had it up to 130 MPH before he let off on it. I can't imagine mine at any where near that speed.The steering is so tight that just breathing shows up at the wheel and ultimately at the road. I don't do high speeds anymore much.Been there done that, happy I survived... Tedd
