This was the last of the flyby's. Before that there were 5 then 3 then 1. You could hear them for miles.

I could hear them on the highway in my car last year when they were taking off from Calgary airport, when I was in Didsbury area.

here just outside of Greenwood air force base I get the F18's every once in awhile flying big circles around the house. They are loud when they go past , probably around 1000 feet.
glad I dont live at the end of the runway like a couple of old houses there

I live about 2 miles from the "George Bush Center for Intelligence" a huge CIA location in Virginia.
Colon Powel lives near by as does Dick Chenney. Every once in a while all-black helicopters hover over our area
for 15-30 munitues, the longest time was over an hour last August, just after we moved in. Our neighbours told us
that it was the CIA or Secret Service watching someone important while they were doing an official government activity.
So it could have watching Obama visitiing the CIA or Chenney or Powell in transit.
Thes pics are from last Aug. the helicopter hovered, not moving more than 20 feet in any direction for over an hour.
It was low enough we could feel the downwash from the rotor and smell the exhaust. My 2 year old son loved it.

Funny enough pictures like that are common in my area. I live 10 minutes from the company that makes those military FLIR cameras. They regularly make test flights testing the newest cameras.

Kinda creepy actually.

I don't want to get political but you're kidding right? Seriously, you're kidding? If not, sorry.

I wish I was. I moved here from Canada last year and laughed the first time I saw it too. Does it make it any better if I tell you it is named for Sr. not "W"? Sorry....

OK, if it's Sr. that's different. Must be cool to see those choppers guarding the leaders though.

The stealth aircraft from nearby Whiteman AFB sometimes fly over our neighborhood (just a few minutes for them but 45 miles away). What is strange is that you DON'T hear them until they are over you and past your location. They are very silent.

So that's how you got that "Town of Olds" sign home without getting caught.

Dan, that doesn't sound like a politically correct AFB.

I noticed that we had an amazing aurora borealis last night. I ran an got my camera.
They looked very beautiful. Took a few shots. Looking at them on the computer today I noticed it wasn't the aurora borealis at all.
It was just some guy doing burnouts in his rocket.

Adam, you got me. I figured with all this forest fire smoke no one would notice.
