Nice catch !!
Nothing like hooking in to a nice Northern they are great fighters. I have been fishing for their close cousins Musky for years however my back no longer likes throwing and working the big jerk baits required to catch them and as you know they can be a frustrating fish I wish I had a dollar
for every big one I lost !!
Now your Walleye, probably the best tasting fish to come out of fresh water anywhere !!!!! and those appear to be the best eating size !!
I will be going on my annual fishing trip again this year, will probably toss a few top waters at dusk for Musky but my focus will be mainly on Walleye and some deep water Smallmouth. probably catch some Northerns because when the water/lakes turn those crazy bastards will hit anything !! Good luck and again nice catch !! thanks for the pics. P/S I'm sure your keeping the Walleye do you keep the Northerns or catch and release them ?

We release the Northern Pike, unless we damage them, great eating as well. The Channel Catfish at the Qu'appelle River outlets are actually the best tasting fish. We have caught 8 to 30 pounders there. Very few bones and firm white meat that tastes like chicken. Yeah, I have heard Muskie are much harder to catch than Pike. There are none here and Bass are very rare as well, not enough warm water here.

Went to Fishing Lake today, plenty of fish, mostly followers. A few really nice Walleye followed us right to the boat. Plenty of small Pike caught. A good 20 caught, not 50 like last year but it is still early. The two Walleye we caught were nice.

Our annual fishing trip is usually mid to late September in northern Wisconsin, we have ventured in to Canada twice both times to Kenora Ontario both fantastic trips. We refers to my 4 brother-in-laws and I, we have been doing it for almost 25 years with some missed trips because life happens sometimes (work, raising children etc...) of course some trips are more productive than others that's why they call it fishing not catching !! Being outdoors fishing always beats work. I believe 2016 was one of our most productive trips. here are a few pics. I'm the fat guy with the gray beard and goofy hat, my musky catch that year was not a keeper I believe he was about 5-6 inches from legal. My brother-in-laws have better luck because they will fish all day for musky ( I won't) but I will take small mouth and walleye that size all day long !!
those walleye and small mouth and northern were caught at depths about 30 feet using minnows the water was crystal clear and you could start to see them at about 12 feet what a thrill to see them fight !!!
My buddy once said Solly what happened ? your hobbies changed !! they used to be sex and drugs and rock and roll, now there classic cars, wood working and fishing !! i told him real life hit me right between the eyes, marriage, mortgage payments and children !! here's a few pics.

Yeah,
I wonder which was harder to reel in the fish or the brunette ? I contributed my pics just because I think its nice us Olds guys have some similar interest in addition to our Oldsmobile's, but my ugly brother-in-laws cant compete with her !!!
My wife always says she would go fishing with me BUT she aint baiting the hook, she aint taking the fish off she cant work the net, and since I don't want to spend my day un-doing birds nest from my bait casters
it's best she just stay behind. she also won't clean them or eat them !!
I was blessed with 3 daughters ( no sons) all 3 have Ichthyophobia, this is why I fish with my brothers-in-laws !!! P/S the wife isn't real fond of night crawlers or leech's in the fridge either !!

My Wife was a farm girl. Her mother did more of the manual labour than probably even my Father in Law and ran all the equipment. The Mennonites are born farmers. My Wife comments she is more of a Man then most Men. As in, she can fix things and help build things. She made $92,000 last year as a Nurse. I got her young and impressionable😁. My Daughter's will fish somewhat. Faith's Boyfriend Kevin is very handy and give him the shitty jobs in the garage😁.

The summer of 1957, we were on a pipeline job that took us from Alberta all the way to Ontario. In a town in Ontario, Dryden, we were right on a large lake where they flew in staples everyday by float plane. My brother and I would fish off the dock nearly every day. Caught some nice Pike and Muskie every now and then.

We went to Lake Defenbaker today, caught one little Pike, a follow up and a few bites. We got there just as they seem to stop biting☹. They dropped the level so low that boat launch at Tommy Douglas Provincial Park was unusable. We went pretty much in the middle between the two dams at Elbow, which are about 60 km apart. This is a massive 225 km long reservoir and extremely deep, averages 70 ft deep, 217 ft deep when full. I had no trouble finding 100+ foot depth. We need to spend a week there and try a few spots. I really need to tie my boat to the Konrad twins boat or pay for their guide services. They have set a ridiculous amount of Provincial and World Records for Rainbow, Burbot and Brown Trout on Defenbaker. There are also Lake Trout, Lake Sturgeon along with Walleye, Sauger, Pike along with every common river species we have plus Whitefish and Atlantic Salmon. Supposedly 10 pound trout are commonly caught, along with big Walleye and Pike.

My daughter caught this last night while fishing for bass with a large black Rooster Tail spinner. I thought it was the biggest bullhead I'd ever seen (it was about 16"). Turns out it was just a small catfish. I didn't know catfish hit artificial lures, nor have we ever caught one in the 12 years we've been living here

I was winning today, then reality set in. We were about tied and I caught the lone Walleye. They started releasing water and my Wife saw a big Sturgeon come to the top. Then she caught these Pike.

I think my Wife is trying for them today. Believe it or not, we have caught them on jigs, some foul hooked, others in the mouth. My Wife doesn't care for bait fishing, what she does obviously works. The smallest ones we have pulled out were 8 pounds, a bunch over 10 to 15 pound range, the biggest we hooked was 25 pounds and heard of 40 pounders caught in the lake. Probably the best place, these Quapple River at the Crooked Lake outlet, up here for size, only the Red River has bigger. I used to catch babies to 9.5 pounders on worms and frogs in the Assiniboine River.

Went to Fishing Lake Friday, we caught 4 before it got too rough, 2 Walleye for me, 2 Pike for my Wife. Here is the best one.
We went to our reservoir, we stayed till a storm blew in when will we learn. Either way, we caught 4, two 1/2 to 3/4 Walleye, one each, my Wife had something big hooked in the South corner of dam, she pulled out 7, 5 to 7 pound Walleye a couple of years back in that spot. I caught these two, around a good pound each.
Oh and a retired farmer I delivered fuel to caught this last week, an 8+ pound Walleye and a 11+ pound Pike, at our reservoir. I believe him, even without the pic. James is a super nice guy.

We put back most of them. Honestly, the best tasting fish are from Thunder Rapids, cold flowing water. Fishing Lake Walleye were very strong tasting, maybe sitting for hours in the live well? I do flush water through every few minutes through it. There will be another one soon I'm sure. My Wife not only looks good in a dress she is really good at Filleting fish and cooking them too.

We went to Lake of the Prairies yesterday. We are in the middle of a heat wave, getting crispy out there, 35C by Saturday, creeping up every day. Either way 15 fish caught and I caught 11, most were 1/2 to 3/4 pound Walleye. Here is the even bigger kicker, I completely won😱! Not only did I win, I caught the two biggest fish, a 2 pound Pike and this at least 1.5 pound Walleye.

So the last 3 trips, no pics taken including plenty of Pike and a 2.5 pound Walleye. Today at Fishing Lake was awesome, probably close to 50 fish, smallest over a pound, biggest Walleye around 4 pounds and my Wife had a Pike around 7 pounds twice.

My one real complaint was no spot to mount a transducer. I JB Welded a block to the back of the boat. It came loose and lost part of the mount on Fishing Lake, trailing like snake. There is a telescoping pole mount I plan on getting.
Brocraft Transducer Mounting Arm/Kayak Transducer Mounting And probably need this replacement to mount it.
Lowrance 000-10262-001 Skimmer Transducer Mount for DSI Units For those who don't know, we rarely catch in over 10 feet of water so a depth finder is very handy. Probably 30 to 40 today, smallest caught by me, just under a pound. The largest was a 23" Walleye caught by someone else.
