Does anyone have some special item that they put in their car.

I got this as a gag gift from my Aunt. She paid a nickel for it. I was 16 at the time. I hung it on the rearview mirror in a 78 Ford fiesta. Remember those and when was the last time you saw one on the road. Anyway it has been hanging on every rearview mirror in my daily driver for the last 43 years..

Hanging on the rear view mirror of my GMC is a toy Goofy. Dad told me when I was 2 I put Goofy on the dash because he would always point the way home. Countless cars and trucks dad has driven, Goofy has been proudly pointing the way ever since.

Now that the truck is mine, I gotta keep the tradition going.

I can’t find an exact picture online, and I’m at work now, but this is basically what’s been hanging from the rear view mirror for 51 years. I’m amazed the sun hasn’t really faded it, or the plastic hasn’t crumbled. If I ever find another one in a flea market or garage sale I’m buying it and putting the original in storage.

I had a 66 pontiac 2+2 I redid years back. The back ashtrays had cigarette butts on both sides. I never would clean them out and throw them away. I sold the car with those 60’s butts still intact.it was just a reminder to me of another time that this car lived through.

When I purchased our ‘70 Cutlass wagon in’99, there was a ‘69 quarter under the back seat. I’ve saved it all of this time to return it on completion of the car. I store it in my garage fridge…yes, I know it’s stupid…. So is spending restoration money on a station wagon.

I have 1968 coins in the glove box of my '68 4-4-2 convertible. I find one every once in a while in my change and into the glove box it goes.

I keep a piece of my kid’s origami on the Starfire console. Nice reminder of appetite for complexity, appetitive for art, and focus on precision.

Gonna be fun to see what the long term plan is..

Cheers

When I bought my 79 Blue Calais in 1984, I found a Lynx golf glove that belonged to the original owner stuck way down in the spare tire wheelwell. I put it back and it's still there. If it hasn't rotted away.

St Christopher medallion Patron Saint of Travelers. It cannot hurt. There was always one in the car growing up.
