Cyclone Yasi Bears Down On Queensland.

Dear C.O Members.
In a few short hours, category 5 Cyclone Yasi with 320kph winds across a 500 km front will cross the northern Queensland coastline. Major towns and cities have been evacuated. All this in the wake of the recent catastrophic floods in Qld.
This Cyclone is reckoned to be the worst to hit Australia....ever. It is 10 times more powerful than Cyclone Tracy which completely flattened Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory, in 1974.
I'm not a religious man, but I'm praying for my fellow countrymen & women up there. I'm feeling sick about what I'm told will be a devastating event.
Guys,...can I ask you to spare them a thought and keep them in your prayers.
Thanks.

We are thinking of, and praying for them...it's pretty bad when you can't get away from a storm that huge much more dangerous than a few cm of blowing snow...

I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

It seems like just one disaster after another is hitting Australia.

Holy crap! 200 mph winds. In 1989 an F5 catagory tornado hit Edmonton killing 23. F5 is the top of the scale! Hope all goes well and it sucks all the flood water out of QLD. We're thinking of you guys on this side of the Pacific as well as our friends south of us.

Yasi Bears? Sound quite viscious!!

Holy crap! Everyone in the country needs to go outside and start blowing into the storm - maybe it will change direction!

If that don't work, then retreat and take shelter!
Our prayers will be with you, as well as for the ones up in the northern US.
Very odd weather patterns!

Thanks guys.... Your prayers worked.
A few smaller towns have been pretty much beaten to a pulp but it crossed the coast midway between the two big centres up there, Cairns & Townsville and damage there has been minimal under the circumstances
Most importantly, no lives lost or injuries reported at this time. They were well prepared having been through it 5 years ago when Cyclone Larry paid a visit.
Most of our tropical fruit, bananas & sugar comes from the area and unfortunately those crops are gone.
Just watching the news on the blizzard across the Midwest. Unbelievable.
And meanwhile in Cairo...
