I always remember him first as Officer Bill Gannon.

He was also Pete on the TV show "Pete and Gladys." He appeared in many other tv shows as well as in over 100 movies.

 

Bummer? Hell, the guy was 96. Nobody lives forever. We should be cheering his long, productive life!

Like WWII vets we are losing great americans of the past every day..from TV and movie stars to great American heroes we all grew up with are now fading away. I miss 'em all

 

Marshall Dillon and Colonel Potter in one year. Great guys. Today was the last gathering of the Pearl Harbor Vets. The remaining ones are too feeble and too old to make the trip. The youngest are in their late 80's. God Bless Them.

 

Read in the paper this morning that the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association is disbanding - not many of them left, and passing on daily. They truly were the Greatest Generation, my Father among them. I can only hope, somehow, that our great Nation gets back to the ideals of those folks..... God Bless them all!

Once a month I eat Breakfast with a vet from Iwo Jima I just sit there in total awe!

 

+1 (but substitute "grandparents" [except in my wife's case - her father and my grandfather were the same age - can you say "Whoops!"?]).

Their times, their world view, and their mannerisms will always be inside me, because of all the stories they told me over the years, from the Depression, the War, and even the years after.
I have their wisdom to help guide me in my life, but I worry for the next generation.
