Mike, I know a guy in Cleveland who does car moving as a business, with a super nice in enclosed trailer- he transports show cars. I can get you his # and you can call him, PM me if interested.
I've used Montway for several of my transports, but that was for newer cars.
I second this one. I used Montway to ship my '77 Toronado from Kentucky to New Mexico. Went off without a hitch, and they got the car there in about 2 days after pickup. It was an open trailer.
I used them again when I had both my '77 and '78 Toronados shipped from New Mexico to our current residence in Michigan in late 2022. I had them on an enclosed trailer this time. Cost was $2,960 for the two cars. The driver was excellent. Kept me apprised from pickup all along the way to drop off.

Richard explained to me he likes to be at his home in Dallas mid trip, so, AZ to IN for my most recent purchase was ok. FL to IN for an eventual haul is too east for him.
I'd click on Richard's @gearheads78 username in my post above (or this one) and send him a message. He was last active on 12/10/25. If you send him a message then hopefully he'll get an email. That along with any emails that might have shown up in his inbox when I mentioned his username will hopefully rouse him from the weeds.
So I hired Montway to haul a car I bought from Tucson to Atlanta. The price was okay, not terrific, but if Jaunty and Blue Calais had good luck that was good enough for me.
When I signed up online I got the impression I was texting with a bot. I felt strong-armed into buying an extra insurance policy, so in case something happened Montway would handle everything and he said they could do it quicker than I could. Hm. I was assigned a driver and I called him and left a message to call me before he picked up the car. Never heard from him, he picked the car up Friday evening. Didn't hear anything all weekend. Last night -someone- texted and said he had my car but couldn't deliver to my house, and would I meet him at a truckstop in Atlanta. I thought it was a scam. This morning someone else called me and said he couldn't get a semi into my neighborhood. I said there are semi's in my neighborhood all the time. I paid for door to door not door to truckstop. The guy said, okay I'll just have him drop it at the nearest tow yard. I said if you do that I'll report it stolen and give the police this number. Long story longer, he dropped it in a turnoff lane on the street in front of my neighborhood and I walked over to meet him and drove the car the half mile to my house. All's well that ends well, I suppose.
I understand Montway is the broker and farms out loads to drivers/companies on a list they maintain. I called Montway this morning and told him I was having trouble with the driver. He said he'd have to call me back, and of course didn't. I told him if this guy is going to have trouble getting a semi through local streets then maybe he needs to choose a new career. Upon meeting this man, though, I determined the truck would have done fine but the driver was not capable.
I appreciate Blue Calais and Jaunty for recommending these people. Ultimately the car was delivered and not damaged. But I'd be hard pressed to call them again. No one I talked to seemed very professional and then that guy on the phone threatened me.
What's funny is I emailed with Richard and he said he couldn't pick the car up until mid February. By the time the seller hemmed and hawed around and got the car ready to go, I could have called Richard anyway.
Anyway, that's the (long) story. Next time it could be a good driver and a better experience. YMMV.
Sorry you had a poor experience, but at least you got your car moved.
I will say this about this:

ALL the shipping firms do this. It's not necessarily bad. No single company can maintain a fleet of car haulers all over the country ready to go at a moment's notice. It's the DRIVERS who are all over the country. When the call goes out for a pickup in, say, Portland, Oregon with a delivery to, say, Portland, Maine, drivers near to Portland and heading to the other Portland will respond, and one will get the job. The drivers are presumably vetted by the firms that contract with them or neither the driver nor the broker would be in business long. Unfortunately, bad apples can happen.
Regarding where they actually dropped it off, I've never had a drop-off right at my house. The drivers always want to be in a place where they can easily park by the side of the road and then move out afterwards without having to go through all sorts of contortions with their semi.
The first time I had a car transported any distance was in 2012 when I had my 1967 Delta 88 moved from Ohio to New Mexico. I don't recall the name of the company, but the experience was fine. They did not pick up the car from my home in rural (Athens) Ohio. If I had wanted that, they told me it would be very hit or miss when a driver would be in my area. They suggested I bring my car to Columbus, about 75 miles away, and drop it at a terminal. Fortunately, the car ran fine. My wife followed me to the pickup point, and we dropped off the car. At the other end, the driver, who was very good, did not want to try to bring the car into my neighborhood because of tight streets. I met him at the side of a quiet, more major street about a half-mile from my house, where he dropped it off.
The second time I had a car transported any distance was in 2017, when I had my non-running 1978 Toronado moved from Georgia to my home at the time in New Mexico. The company was called Autostar Transport Express. The car was non-running. The experience was very good. The driver took good care of the car, parking it at the top rear of his open trailer where it would be the least likely to get any stone damage. He did not bring it anywhere near my house, but rather dropped it at a truckstop about 10 miles away. I knew up front that this would be the case. I contracted with local towing company to meet the driver at the truckstop, load it onto their two-car car-hauler, and deliver it to my house. The second driver was real professional when it came to depositing the car perfectly into my garage.
The third time was when I had my 1977 Toronado transported from Kentucky to New Mexico in 2021. I used Montway at the suggestion of the seller, who had used them when he bought the car and had it transported from Minnesota to Kentucky. The experience was fine. I did all the arrangements by phone, not online as I was in Kentucky and did not have access to a computer. The lady I spoke with was very good. As I recall, I called them on a Monday, the car was picked up in Kentucky the following Friday, and it was delivered the following Monday. Again, the driver did not bring it to my house but rather dropped it again about a half-mile away. No problem.
The most recent time was what I described earlier. Had both my '77 and '78 Toronados moved from New Mexico to Michigan. Used Montway again with no problems. But the cars were dropped off at a gas station about three miles from my house because I live on rural road with no shoulders and cars zipping by at 55 mph, so there was no place for him to easily park and unload. (When we moved into our house, the moving van driver very professionally backed the van down our driveway. He had helpers out on the street stopping traffic for the minute or so the driver was maneuvering the truck around.)
Thanks Jaunty. I remember when you were moving your Toronados. I realize all transport companies bid out the jobs. The car was delivered safely and that's what matters. Though, if they weren't able to deliver the car to my house they shouldn't have told me they would. Eh, what are you going to do. I had an Imperial brought to my house once, but it was on a hotshot, different story all together.
Wow, very sorry you had a bad experience, no doubt this was not one of the better drivers for sure. I'm glad the car was not damaged, that really would have been bad.
The last time I used Montway was 12/2023 when I had my 2009 Mustang GT delivered from a car dealer in Indiana. I think I just might look elsewhere next time. Since you are in Georgia, it would be reasonable to think I'd be dealing with the same broker at Montway from here in SC.
No I called the number for Montway and he said he would call the driver. Instead he called the driver's office, which wasn't open yet. He was going to call me back but never did. The guy that called me, I don't know where he was from. He didn't threaten me bodily, just that he was going to tell the driver to drop the car at a tow yard. That would not have fulfilled their obligation.
The driver pulled off the street into the turn off lane, which was pretty clever because he was still able to pull right out, but wasn't blocking traffic. There was plenty of room behind the truck to get the car off the trailer. And it was walking distance from my house it turned out to be no big deal.
I probably expected more than I should have. But they were clear in the beginning that the car would be delivered to my house. Maybe he shouldn't have said that I don't know. The bottom line is they did what they said they would do, which was pick up the car in Tucson and bring it to me. Who knows, if I would have called a day later or earlier, I might have had a different driver and it would have all been different.
Again, I appreciate Blue and Jaunty for recommending them and the stories related to their moves and everyone who responded.
