Calling All Ottawa, Ontario Area Oldsmobile Enthusiasts

A friend posted this on a few other Oldsmobile forums, so I figured I would post it up here as well.

Hello,
This is for all the Oldsmobile people out there in the Ottawa area.
I am not sure if anyone is setting anything up, however I am going to try to do something for our late friend, Blair Rendell.
If you fellow Olds enthusiasts could contact other Oldsmobile folk you know to join in, we could get the ball rolling.
We lost Blair April 14, 2011.It falls on the Saturday after Easter this year.If weather permits, I'm thinking of the Oldsmobile community meeting up somewhere, occupy a parking lot (or part of one), show off our rides a while, then perhaps all of us cruise somewhere together in a show of Oldsmobiles all in a row.
Blair would like that.
If interested, please let me know.
And get the word out.

Blair with his 1971 442 W-30 4 speed convertible.

The details are not finalised yet, not even 100% sure on the date. But I will pass along the details when I get more.

Olds tribute for Blair

As soon as I get a few more responses, I can finalise a date, however, I believe Saturday April 14, 2012 would be appropriate since it would be the one year mark. That isn't etched in stone, though. If we can get 6 to 10 more cars a week later, it would make a better showing and more enjoyable for those involved.
More to follow.

Oldsmobile Tribute Events for Blair Rendell

Wednesday Evening Cruise Night at Rideau Carleton Raceway on June 27, 2012 will be having an Oldsmobile Feature Night. The lower lot (between the main building and the track) is reserved for Oldsmobiles, Olds powered cars, etc.My thanks go to Graham MacInnes and Crew for allowing us to have such a night at their event.
As well, the kind people from Highway 43 Car Club are putting on a show.July 15, 2012 they are hosting an ALL GM “MOTORAMA” Show & Shine, GM Cars and Trucks Only. Myers Kanata, Palladium Auto Park. 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M
We will have a special section reserved for Oldsmobiles.

Both these events are meant as a tribute to the friendship I (we) had with a very special person in Blair Rendell. He was an Oldsmobile guy all the way.
His baby was his 1971 442 W-30 4speed convertible. He also had a yellow 1969 Vista Cruiser, a 1972 Cutlass notchback coupe, and was in the process of restoring a 1969 442 when he passed away.
He is dearly missed.
If any Oldsmobile people out there could spread the word, we can put on a good Oldsmobile showing at these two events.
Thank you, Cheers.
Jeff

I would like to come also. I could not make it untill later in the day on the April the 14th as I will be driving from Cornwall and I have to work there until Noon. My car isn't as classic either and it is a work in progress. 1989 Custom Cruiser.

cccrew8, unfortunately there will not be anything happening on April 14.

But Jeff (furtrader) is still organizing Oldsmobile gatherings at the 2 events mentioned above, at Rideau Carleton Raceway in June and Myers Kanata in July.

Tony, you have until either June or July to get your car ready to drive to Ottawa. And maybe you could try a breakfast poutine while you are here

DONE, so the meet is going to be in June/July? That sounds really good, my plan is to finish cleaning up my frame (wirebrush-hell) and give her a nice coat of black corrostop chassis paint.

I actually JUST got my lower suspension bolts off the rear end of my car. The threads were completely finished. So in the end. I took my torque wrench and slammed with all my might ** POP ** the bolts snapped off on each side.

That was the last thing left before i put in my gas tank and new rubber lines in the back.

I know that I am repeating myself and what Jeff has posted, but I just want to make sure people know the gathering on April 14 is not happening but that there will still be a tribute.

After hearing about Jeff's (furtrader) idea about having a tribute for Blair, two local car show organizers have offered to help. As Jeff mentioned in an earlier post a local cruise night and car show have offered to set aside a reserved area for Oldsmobiles so that we can pay tribute to Blair Rendell. This will be at the following two events:

Cruise Night
Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - Oldsmobile Feature Night at RCR Wednesday Night Cruise night
Rideau Carleton Raceway, Ottawa, Ontario.

Car Show
Sunday, July 15, 2012 - All GM "Motorama" Show and Shine
Myers Kanata, Ottawa, Ontario
9:00am - 3:00pm

And I would like to thank Jeff for all the effort he is putting into organizing this tribute for a friend.

Sometimes that is the best way to take a part off

I'm working on an annual show with my local grocer.
Perhaps something along the lines of "The 1st Annual Blair Rendell/Your Independent Grocer Car Show".
I am thinking Oldsmobile oriented but open to everyone.
More to come when I have more info.
Cheers!
