CAF VE Day flyover

The Commemorative Air Force out of Falcon Field in Mesa did a flyover this morning to commemorate VE Day. It included a B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-25 Mitchell Bomber and a C-47 Skytrain.

I didn't get to see it in person as I had a meeting to go to and couldn't stay out in the parking lot waiting for them, but I was able to follow it on a local TV station live feed that had their news chopper following along. I grabbed a few screen shots and thought I'd share them. My wife texted me and said they flew over the house. I've seen the B-17 and the C-47 over the house quite a few times but never all three of those together. That musta been a sight and sound!

Checked off one of my bucket list a few years ago when I took a ride in the B17 "Texas Raiders". Nothing like it. These pics look like it was the B17 named "Sentimental Journey"

The B25 is the ones Jimmy Dolittle's squadron flew off of the Hornet for the bombing raid to Tokyo in WWII. If you have never seen the movie "Thirty Seconds over Tokyo". Watch it.

All three of those planes are kept up at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa (https://www.azcaf.org/). I highly recommend making a trip there, it's primarily a hobbyist airport with a museum. Most of the time they allow you to get up close and even climb through to see everything. They also offer rides, but that's pretty pricey.
Sometimes you can get lucky and be right on the tarmac as one of them take off or come in. outright amazing to be standing relatively near as those four engines fire up!

I believe the B-25’s were assembled at the Willow Run plant. There’s nothing like hearing those old piston poppers of the day!

Yeah, periodically the Sentimental Journey B-17 will fly over the house and there is no mistaking what it is. I can hear it coming a long ways off. It is always an awesome sight and sound!

Just think what a whole squadron of those B-17’s would sound like.

We should never forget WHY we joined France and England to stop Germany (death camps for political prisoners, tyranny and FASCISM). May we honor the fallen by continuing the fight for Democracy and Freedom.
