A busy summer!

Hi all
I've gotten a few messages from members that I still need to reply to. I haven't been ignoring you, but work hit a busy period. I work in forestry and some lightning storms started a mess of forest fires. With my still new knees I'm not out on the line, but there's plenty of support positions needed to keep the firefighters equipped with what they need. The Oregon Gulch fire started and went from zero to 8,500 acres the first day. The second day it was around 17,000 and the third up to 31,000 then it calmed down! I took some pictures from the field behind my house on day two and that thing that looks like a volcano going off is about 50 miles away. The weather lady called it a pyro cumulonimbus cloud. I believe its the heat with all the moisture from burned vegetation reaching high enough in the atmosphere that it condenses and creates a cloud over the fire. It was also reported to have had lightening coming out of this cloud. We're having more lightening right now, but with all the firefighters in the valley I hope there able to stop any new fires before they get large. So if you sent me a message asking about parts, it will be a while before I can play with the car stuff. If your project is waiting on the parts please contact some of the other member who sell parts, or create a parts wanted thread. For those of you able to wait please get in touch with me again in the future. John

Wow John - nice pictures. Never thought fire caused those types of clouds!
Keep it safe out there and mind the knees. I wish the best to those out on the front lines fighting it - I know how tough it is...
Were these fires started from lightning or people?

Incredible pictures, John...it's been hot up here, too, but it must be roasting down Medford way! The fires are especially bad this summer...but those pictures really show the smoke the fires put up...thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys. My knees are keeping me on the sidelines which is probably good! But there's still a lot of support positions needed to keep those guys on the front lines.

We had a break in the weather last week so I finally got a day off. The fires in Northern California are still growing but the ones around here are mostly contained.

John

P.S. yes Rob they were started by lightening. Things have been pretty dry so a down strike followed by strong winds from the thunder cells can start a fire that will really rip.

I know its very dry out west, and the east always gets flooded! Every year they get flooded! Every year there are forrest fires out west! SO WHY dosent the government build BIG resevoirs to contain the flood waters from the eastern flood areas? Its fresh water that will eventually run down the rivers and become salt water. There are water shortages all through the west. They could build a big pipe line to pump the water out west. I know that would be a huge project and very costly BUT, if they can build a trans Canadian Gulf Coast oil pipe line then why in the hell cant they build a east west water pipeline? We could survive without oil better than without water! We are talking TRILLIONS of gallons of waters that flood those poor people EVERY YEAR! i see it on the news every year and i see the west burning every year. That is ALOT of fresh water thats being wasted. But it seems to me our government is more into wars and going to Mars??????? WTF!!! Lakes and resevoirs are drying up everywhere, I know there is enough YEARLY flood waters that would help this problem.
