My girlfrind never understood. Finally i took her out, put her behind the wheel. She liked crusing in a 67 convert, but then we pulled up to a light. I took a risk, and went out on a huge limb when some punk pulled up next to us in his firebird/camaro/trans am, i don't remember exactly which on eit was. Anyways the guys thought he was real cool. Yells out thew window "nice car, but real men drive fast ones" at me. i chuckeled to myself and told her when the light turned green to stomp on the gas. We had him at bout 2cars length when i told her to back off a little. at the next light he had his windows up (of course he did) n i just let him know he got beat by a girl. I could tell she loved it. She tried to hide her smile smile but it was too obvious. i even saw her hand shaking a little from the adrenaline. She never bothered me bout it since except every third month or so when she's on her time and she tells me i spend more time with my car than her, but nothing other than that.

A few years ago, when I was in my early 40s, I asked my wife if I could buy another muscle car (I've had a few Camaros). She said "well, only if it's a convertible". So, as any man would assume, that's permission granted!! So I got the Cutty, and she hasn't given me much heat about it.

I had that problem. She was so jealous of my hobbies. And my car. Needless to say it easier to find another girl, not another 64 Olds. So im single now!

My wife only gets jealous when I take my girlfriend for a ride!!! LOL!!

Seriously, I am very fortunate - we had our first date in my Oldsmobile - she is very into the whole car scene - she just gets upset with the amount of money I spend sometimes!!

I think it important to try to get them involved. I was looking at a 70 442 pace car from a guy who had a collection of oldsmobiles. He had 3 pace cars side by side all around the same price I let her pick and she picked the one with the shiny paint.
We would cruise in the summer and do a few car shows and I would let her drive it alone once in a while and she would get hit on all the time by other guys who appreciated nice old cars and pretty women. They would say stuff like "whats a girl like you driving a car like that for?" So from that point on she likes my old cars and now spots them when before she really didn't care.

I got lucky. She's not as into it as I am, but she knows her way around a toolbox better than most women. While I'm changing oil on the Olds, she's usually out under her Mustang doing her own. She's a little apprehensive about some jobs, but usually (especially if its her car) she tells me to get the hell out of her way! ha ha

She kinda rolled her eyes when I brought the Olds home for the first time. (I think she though I wouldn't actually buy it.) But a year later she was out helping get her ready for the paint job. Hehe. She doesn't like to admit it, but I'm pretty sure the Toronado's grown on her.

Exclamation

Also back in the fall, Oct of 2006, my mom had a fit when both my parents were in My house look for a spare tire.
Anyho my Mom saw my LL bean paycheck with a401k loan on it.
All had to say is this: I wish I borrowed about $15,500 so I bought BOTH the red Toronado and the blue 63 Starfire.
Here is the story about the red Toronado.

Exclamation 1995 Aurora

Oh yes the girlfriend thing ---
Back in Oct of 2007, I was given a green 1995 Olds Aurora (please see my car Domain.com link below), from an LL Bean co-worker.
The car has a super clean intreior. I drove this car from Topsham to Portland (1/2 hour drive). Yes this car has my issues, e-bake that was stuck (it would ring when you had the car in drive), neede new radtior, transmssion, stuts, O2 senor, in short aleast $3,000 in repairs.

The car was at my girlfriend's house fo r6 months until I sold it to some Auoroa fans (they owne a 1998 Aurora, plus 2 1964 Chevy Impalas, a semi-cusotm 80's Monte Carlo. Both Jim and ALinda are car buffs).
So I did not feel to bad that the Aurora when to a good home.
But my girlfriend was on my case about the Aruroa.

My wife has said that instead of getting 442MUCH as a vanity plate, I should have gotten OTHRWMN (Other Woman).

When I told her I was thinking of getting another car she said no. She said I didn't need one I had the 442. I said that I knew I didn't need one but I wanted one. She said I don't want another car and I don't want to hear anymore about it.

I never said another word because I didn't want to fight. She actually brought the subject up when I drove the car into the driveway about three weeks later. She was OK with it.

My buddy said he'd never do that. His wife would kill him. How did I manage it? I told him that first he had to go get his wifes purse. Then he had to open it and put his hand inside. He said what the Hell will that do? I said feel around the inside of her purse and when you find them remove your b*lls.

I guess I'm pretty lucky, my wife has been a car guy since I met her 34 years ago. I thank the heavens every day for allowing a bum like me to be with her. Worked at her dads gas station, mostly pumped gas but knew how to do oil changes and break down and mount tires. Restored a '62 Fairlane when she was 17 by herself and finished it, all us guys were still driving primered beaters to the Big Boy. She bought me a GTO and had it shipped from Texas as a surprise. She can drive anything and works a clutch and stick like a pro. We go to the cruise ins and I get severely chastized if I don't bring her. We just went to a swap meet last weekend and she found some nice parts, she's good with vintage toys too. No problem pushing the kids in the stroller through the mud at swap meets when they were little. The Vista Cruiser is really her car but she really wants a Trans-Am like the Firebird she bought new with her own hard earned money when she was 18. I was walking away from the Vista and she made me buy it, told me I would have a hard time finding a body and frame that clean for the price and she was right. She can't work on cars too well now because she has rheumatoid arthritis but sure tries.
She insisted on sewing my sunvisor edging on and I could see how painful it was for her to do, took weeks. They aren't perfect buy any means but they're staying on the car and if I ever sell it I'm taking them off and keeping them.

My wife has been pretty supportive even though she is not into cars the way I am. At least she always knows where I am.....the garage. Not at a bar gettin in trouble! She even does it say much when another box of parts arrives at the front door. So I guess after 11 years I will have to keep her!

A great plate indeed! That is what Lady wore when I got her...
Fitting too, back then!

And being a SC plate, the words "Nothing could be finer" is at the top (hard to read in this small picture)... This is very true!!

I have not found one yet that understands the car thing! I warn them right at first and in no time she is telling me what I should do with my cars as I am reminding her where the door is and where her keys are!

My wife is a car nut ! HOWEVER, she loves Volvos ? Actually they grow on ya. She has a 80 Bertone coupe soon to be 5.0 Ford powered !
A 66 Amazon wagon she wants slightly lowered and cool wheels.
I ended up with a 68 Amazon wagon , parts car for the 66, which will get some custom work, engine swap ? 215 ? ! .(after the Cutlass)
I cant wait to get a 455 in the Cutlass and take her for a blast . I don't think shes had much Big Block seat time

Our 1st date was to the Harold Lemay show in Tacoma.
Shortly after we were married I spied a 66 Plymouth Fury for cheap and she drove by to look at it and called me at work and said she would be pissed if I didn't buy it ! Hows that for cool !

Shes still a woman 1st , have to try and not overdo the car/shop thing.

Joke

My wife and I are watching “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” while we were in bed.

I turned to her and said, "Do you want to have sex?"

"No," she answered. I then said,

"Is that your final answer?" She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying "Yes."

So I said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend."

And that's when the fight started....

Finished the 55 about the same time wife #2 was getting ready to split and move back to the Bay Area. I asked her if she would like to go for a ride since the car was shinny and new. I knew all was lost when she tried to put her head in the glove box so the wind wouldn't mess up her hair! Somethings are just not met to be. First date with wife #3 was in the convertible, she now drives it more than me....We do call it the mistress, takes up all my time and money but she she loves it , Yep she is a keeper.... Wife and car....Tedd

I spend about 10 hours a day wrenchin' it up then about 6 hours at a restaurant (manager), I don't have a significant other at this time but if I did she would have to be understanding of my passion for cars, especially classy ones that may cost a bit more to fix up....either that or she needs to be in there wrenchin' with me =D

Back in high school, my girlfriend use to tell her friends that if we were walking down the street and my head swiveled around, she never worried, because it was always a car I was looking at, and not another girl.

No problems for me, my fiance is a cab driver and likes the American car hobby so we have a great arrangement;
As long as her cab is ready for work - that means in great shape or the authorities can order it off the road - then I'm free to play with the Olds. She likes to drive the Olds from time to time but prefers the opportunity to be the passenger for a change.

Pretty lucky here...let me build a 26 x 44 shop, encourages me to keep and not sell unless I'm absolutely sure, and was the bigger proponent of naming our kids "Holiday" and "Starfire"

LOL most are... My favorite was sold the caprice not too long ago and started buying parts. She was getting furious with me cause i was buying car parts and not saving the money for vacation. I told her it was my money and I will do as i please. That was the end of that conversation lol.

And anytime i am dating a girl and the "M" word comes up i let them know that no matter what there will be a prenupt that says anything to do with my cars i will get back if there was a divorce.
