Question vehical history search

Ok here we go again! Does anyone know of a site that you can track the history of your car from the factory to the dealer first buyer and those after. Any help would be appreciated. This is again for the 68 F-85 with the paint code of -- which we found out was a special ordered paint. This probably would not seem so rare but the car is a bare F-85 with a 350/2barrel and 4 speed single exhaust and open rear, bench seat, no air with manual steering and brakes. So with this in mind we would like to find out who ordered it and so on. My son was planning on doing his own thing with the car until we found this paint code question and now he may want to put it back as original as possible. Thanks for the help on this.
Doug.

If you are interested, the GM Heritage Center could possibly help you out with some of it and your DMV may be able to help with the other part. I contacted them to see if they could help me on my 1915 Olds Model 42s and they said...

"We do provide research packages for Oldsmobile. We do, however, charge $35.00 for this service. Please provide any information that you have about the car, the vehicle serial number and send it, along with a check made out to General Motors, to the address below.

I hope this helps. Best of luck,

Wow, this sounds fantastic. Another follow up question. Does this research service provide copies of build documentation?? Build sheets, dealer info etc?? There's a few questions I have about the options and history behind my 67 4-4-2 Holiday Coupe that I'd like to get more info on.

I sent an email to Jim Vehko, at the GM Heritage Center. I'll post his reply when I get it. Thanks for the information. This could be a huge help.

Ok, got word back from Jim Vehko at the GM Heritage Center. Here's what he said.

We can provide copies of many documents: owner's manual, catalogs. MVMA specifications, inspector's guide, 442 information and general historical information. We do not have build records for individual cars prior to 1977. The cost is $35.00 (a check payable to General Motors). We need the VIN and a pencil rubbing of the cowl tag. Send that information to the address below. It should take about 2 days for me to get a package on its way back to you.

So much for finding an archived copy of a build sheet for my 1967 4-4-2. Previous owner "loaned" it to his buddy who decided to use it as a book mark for an old issue of Hot Rod Magazine. Wife comes home, cleans up and unknowingly throws it out!!! EEEEK!!

Once again, there is NO GM source for build sheet or other data on Oldsmobiles built prior to the late 1970s. There is no internet source either, since CarFax and the like didn't exist then.
