Removing lower control arm bolts....

70 442 front lower control arm bolts (rearward bolt on both arms) are rusted to the sleeves. Got the nut off the passenger side no problem.

Any tips/tricks to getting these apart? Tough getting the cut-off wheel in there without messing up everything around it.

Already orders new bolts/nuts so destructive removal acceptable.

This tear down was going so smoothly.....

Thanks!

Joe

I've had some success with penetrating oil left to wick in over time, followed by attempting to torque the hell out of them. Unfortunately, if the inner sleeve starts to spin, it's game over. Can you get the cutting wheel or sawzall up inside the "U" of the LCA ears and cut through the bushing itself? Once you get the majority of it out, the remaining sections of bolt can be tapped out.

Yeah, the sleeve is spinning inside.

Sawzall is tough, as it gets jammed up in there and can knock you around bending the blade.....cutoff wheel tends to hit the frame mount before you get all the way through.

Guess I have no choice. I’ll start hacking with the angle grinder.

One my least favorite chores on these cars.....with the effort, but I still hate the tear down....
