Rear Cargo Coil spring part number ???

Rear Cargo Coil spring part number ???

I have decided to put cargo coil (variable rate) rear springs in my convertible to help when we have a car full of people going for a cruise.

I know the Moog stock replacement spring is # 6321.

Does anyone know the "cargo coil" or another variable rate spring for the rear of a 67 442 convertible. I am good with it if it raises it a little in the rear. I was never fond of the lower rear the 67 442 had over a Cutlass.

I have done some calculations myself and thought about ordering Moog 5415 (constant rate) for my 67 Turnpike Cruiser that where recommended by droldsmoreland in this thread (scroll almost to bottom):

"The rear spring set that raise the rear of the car 1.5" and be stiffer and handle well is a MOOG# 5415. This set is about 11% stiffer that the stock HD springs when the car was new. I did install these about 2yrs ago on a friend's 1967 Cutlass Supreme convertible and the results were great. The other benefit is that he added 15" wheels and the extra clearance was about right. The engeneering specs are:
  • Wire Diameter .61"
  • Installed Ht. 9.0"
  • Free Ht. 14.62"
  • Load Rate 169# (stk HD for A-body was 140# )
  • Load Capacity 849# each spring.
While cargo coil- variable rate springs have more load capacity, they will very dissappointing. If we throw sandbags or maybe a small tailer into or onto the rear of friend's 1967 Cutlass, the rear ride ht. is almost as high as stock HD unloaded trunk or rear bumper.
The official Moog load capacity for the 5415 is even higher than quoted: 950 lbs.

The CC507 will raise the rear a lot.

Moog said CC501 is the cargo coil for the application and 5385 for stock.

Anyone use these?

CC501 has arrived. will install in the next week. I will let you all know what happens with that.

I put in the new rear springs. They did not change the ride height much at all. I mean like less than an inch. I also added air lift bags and I am very happy with the ride improvement.
