1st. off welcome!!! You'll have to determine your wheelbase and width & try and find a chassis close to it !! I used a 86 Cutlass chassis under my 51 Cdn. Pontiac But had to shorten chassis to get W/base right [ close ] then move ft. wheel opening ahead 2 " otherwise engine set back into firewall. Other alternative is to "clip" frt. frame section if your looking for disc brake pwr. strg. set up?? Lots of measuring, from fixed point on body cross [ diagonally] measure too side to side] & of course the w/b from back axle!!!

Frame for 56

I don't know which body style you have, but I usd. 1771 Vistacruiser frame under my 55 2 door hardtop. That being said, unless you are very proficient with fitting and welding, it's a difficult conversion. The wheelbase works, but the VC is too long on both ends, so has to be shortened. Then new body mounts have yo be built, Mine came out nice, but I might have been time ahead.to have modified the original frame. The redeeming part tho, was that it allowed me to use a 455 with no trouble.

Your '56 had a wheelbase of 122" on the "88" or 126" on the "98". Hope that helps. Just found out that a 1995 up S-10 extended cab shows to have a 122" wheelbase.Dont know the different in width. Larry

I just remembered I saw a '55 "88" that was on a 1971-1979 Caprice Frame (121.9") frame and the guy said it was a very easy swap. You might want to check it out,I would think the width would be closer on it than a S/10 frame. Larry

I'm using a '68 Vista cruiser frame for my '50 Olds coupe.
The Vista frame is 121 wheel base and my '50 is 120, just have to fudge a 1/2 inch frt and rear.
And yes weld body mounts brkts to match the factory mount holes.
Also have to modify the frt and rear frame horns to fit the bumper mounts.
Not a weekend job, but will have a more modern suspension.
