Looking to get some serious handling out of my cutlass.

Ok so I have a 72 olds cutlass supreme. As far as I can tell the shocks are all shot. You bounce it and it bounces a few times. Not to mention it takes no effort at all pushing down to lower the height. Also there is no sway bar on the rear. And the bushings on the front sway bar are shot. So I was wondering what would be the best opinionated brand of shocks to use on our cars. And what kind of after market sway bar should I put on the back. Also I know that going to a 17 or 18 inch wheel will help handling, but I want to stick with my camaro 15 inch rallys that are on it. Any other tips are well appreciated

Remember to get or modify yourself to boxed rear lower control arms, otherwise you'll crush your existing ones when you torque down your rear sway bar. Additionally, you need to have the right relationship between the front and rear sway bars - having one or the other too big in relation to the other will affect handling negatively as well.

A-body cars generally don't have the best handling, the front end geometry is poorly designed from a performance perspective. The Olds FAQ has tons of info about this problem.

For handling, I prefer Bilstein shocks - they pretty much transformed my Delta, even before I did anything to the sway bars.

I used Eibach springs, Bilstein shocks, Howel tall ball joints, SPC upper arms, Currietrac rear arms, stock front bar from a GTO and rear aftermarket bar. The car handled like a modern sports sedan.

All parts were purchased from Marcus at SC&C. I was very happy with the performance and service I got from him.

Gearheads and the other guys gave you some real good choices. I went off the charts with a complete front and rear Hotchkis suspension, Moser 9inch, QA1 shocks. I spent the $$$ on this because this will be my RV when I retire in 7 years. HP shocks, boxed lower control arms,new bushings, will make a huge difference. Double check this: but I heard a 1 1/8 inch front sway bar off a Firebird WS6 or a Camaro with the 1LE suspension will fit the front for not much $$$. Protouring.com can give you a lot of handling options too. Really depends where you are going with the build. Also I'm not familiar with the stock steering box on a 72 Cutty. I pulled one off a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee ($40.00) and had Lee build it. Few pictures just to give some ideas. Enjoy.

If you price it through Summitt and the other vendors 10K. I built it my self, that saved mega $$$$$, That includes the cost of the Lee steering box, sandblasting and power coating the frame and misc. parts. I am waiting for the body shop to get the paint on the body and bring it home. I am going to run a stock 67 400E( has only maybe 5k miles since the rebuild) for a while, work out the bugs, enjoy the finished product and so on before I build the 425. But that said, everything on the car was intentionally built to handle the power of the Bad Boy 425 including the 200R4 trans. When the time comes I just need to change the converter. As for the front end I decided to build it using the B-spindle upgrade- I used the threads in this club for help and a hell of alot of advise. This car should steer, stop and turn like a slot car when I ever get her on the street. If you go anywhere in this direction. I can pass on a lot from this experience. The frame itself and the parking brake cable are the only parts left from
the 64 F-85 chassis.Few more shots

ho or malibu racing in california has your answers for a treasonable price also front to rear your a body will handle like a 90 -96 corvette afterwards ken crochie owns it still i think. including the complete kit plus front end parts ball joints etc plus inflation of course around a grand total and it is all oem style and no fabrication work. by the way check on the web first for them.
