Front Coil R & R '55 Rocket 88

The front coils on my '55 are going to need to be replaced after I get the rear leafs installed. I think the added weight of the 455 motor and 60 years has taken it's toll. And when I get the leafs done I am sure the front will sag even more with the rear being higher.
I would like to do it myself mostly because I am just making it a safe driving survivor and do not have a big budget. A little advice would go a long way.

You should be able to do the job yourself. The original springs had their part number on the outside of one of the end coils. But if you have increased the load on the front you may want to go to a higher rate spring. Knowing the current and original wheel loads would be helpful. Choose carefully. The coil with the flattened end goes on the top. The removal & replacement procedure is on page 4-6 of section 4 of the shop manual. No specialized tools are mentioned. There were 6 different springs for 1955 depending on model & equipment. Your S88 sedan should be 566125 if it has a Hydramatic, no A/C, and was not an export or a police option. Let me know if you need a number. Replacement springs should be available. You are not too far from Metro Atlanta, so sources should be near.

I think the 455 had nothing to do with it, as the 324 weighs more than the 455. It was the 60 years of weight sitting on the springs
