Body removal from chassis
Body removal from chassis
Ok so im taking the body of the frame on my 72 and im looking to see what others have done and where they lifted from. I was thinking of lifting the front with a cherry picker/engine hoist and using hooks from the openings on the bushing mount on the lower firewall. For the rear I was thinking a bit more aggressive approach. My car is not a show car so I was thinking o lifting it from the body channels that run through the floor by bolthing lift plates to them. I also planned on lifting the rear with a cherry picker albeit a borrowed one but yes im using two. Any thoughts on this ? Anyone else try another method or lifts from different areas ? I know its not that complicated but before I try one method id like to see what others have done and had success with. Thanks in advance.
Once the shell is stripped, its not that heavy. If the metal is solid and not rusted you can put a nylon tow strap around the car and attach it to your hoist. I've even used a floor jack with blocks to lift up one end at a time, blocked it up. Removed the tires from the chassis and pulled that out from under the shell.

I was planning on doing the tireless chassis drag too lol. I would use straps but the body work has been done for some years now and I don't want to over flex it id rather be safe that sorry. Im just removing to fix my chassis and front lower bushing mounts.
I just did this on my 67. I used the cherry picker up front, but used a nylon lifting strap. I was afraid if I used the hooks from a chain I would booger up the firewall. For the rear I initially got a floor jack under the body and raised it enough to get a 4×4 between the frame and the body. Once the 4x4 was in place I used two bottle jacks and blocks to lift it the rest of the way. All in all it went pretty smooth. I recommend having a second set of hands, makes it easier and safer. Good luck however you decide to do the lift.
