1968 442 rear sway bar mounting ?

Rear sway bar on this thing is kinda loose when not tightened onto the trailing arm. I got new boxed arms but it has the 7/8 stock bar and originally I took two shims out of each side. How does one set this up?

Add shims till snug then tighten bolts or is it just two shims either side?

Assembly manual and service say very little on this other than shims go in there. I believe they are added to save on the arm bushings binding. Thanks Matt

^^^This. Shim as required to take up any manufacturing tolerance. The last thing you want to do is to put a side load on the lower control arms. That's a good way to bend them.

Does the sway bar almost touch the bottom of the rear housing ?

I mounted mine last weekend for the 1st time and found it is almost touching the bottom of the rear housing. No body on the chassis at this time
