WTB: ’68–’72 Cutlass (Holiday Coupe or Convertible)
Looking for a clean, reliable driver. Prefer:
Thanks
- mild upgrades (EFI, overdrive, disc brakes, A/C, suspension work)
- solid body and good paint
- tidy interior
Thanks
One easy, one a bit harder to answer
Easy, North Central Florida
Hard, 45k ish if the paint and brightwork are local car show quality. If it needs to be resprayed/chromed about 14k less. That'd be for a very well executed restomod witha modern motor, overdrive, etc.

This bid up to 32k at Hagerty and only 33k at BaT. It looks to checkoff most all the boxes on my list.
Thoughts?

All nice comments during the auction! After you posed the question I reread them and that was an overall complementary group. Sometimes the BaT crowd criticizes a build and second guesses the builders choices which affects bidding. Then again I'm not real sure that BaT is the best place for a bidding war on an American car on a traditional platform. Especially sprayed maroon and complemented with an orange top.
Here's another, visually more pleasing to my eye, that stopped at 31k. I like this ones appearance as I'm fond of white A bodies since Mom and Dad had similar appearing sisters; a '65 Cutlass and a '65 442, both plain white. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...lass-restomod/

Huh. A '68 with a '69 H/O paint scheme. Gotta say, the "before" pictures make me sad -- looked like a very nice unmolested survivor Cutlass. I feel better when they bring a car back from the dead if they're gonna restomod it.
That said, it certainly seemed like it should be worth more than $31K. Is it because nobody has money for toys in this economy?

Maybe, Covid is over and there's a downward adjustment in all the big boy toys that I'm involved with. Plus, the typical buyer for a 60's classic is aging out. I picked up a , corvair a few years back and the seller's motivation was that, at 80, he could no longer work the clutch without a lot of pain. Compared to a 455 a Corvair clutch is cake!
You know, I don't think most realize how many problems there can be with a restomod. How many shops exist to work on one with all the potential mechanical and electrical modifications. Buyers should understand that there is no warranty service dept that can fix things. Doesn't anyone wonder why a vehicle is being sold anymore? Just some thoughts.
There's a pretty nice looking '71 Cutlass Supreme convertible currently on FB Marketplace in Irving, Texas.
Long term ownership, low miles, looks pretty original.
It's not far from me and I may be able to check it out for you.
