WTB - 1966 1967 Cutlass Convertible

Like the title says - I'm looking for a clean driver without major issues, A/C and console cars a big plus. Please PM me for an immediate response.

Edit - I suppose I should mention that I'd prefer to find a car within 2 or 3 states of NY... I know the best chance of finding a rust-free car will be in the southwest, but I need to see it before I but and I'm afraid I can't spare a week of nonstop driving with a trailer in tow... at least not at the moment.

Not sure if he still has it or not but I have seen this can and it looks pretty nice. I have not looked it in detail though.

65 442 conv

I called on the candy red 65 442 convert and was told $25000 was a misprint,it should be $35000.that changes things slightly!

I saw this 1 on Long Island Craigslist. I don't know anything about it beyond ad:

http://longisland.craigslist.org/cto/3574702734.html

Here's another 1 (non convertible) just across the river from you in CT:

http://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/3649885800.html

We might have a winner here....

I would be wary of frame rot on this one since it says a lot of body panels were replaced possibly from rot...

Thanks for the links guys.

I spoke with the owner of the Long Island car a couple of weeks ago. He was supposed to send me pictures and never did. Also, though the ad makes it sound like he's tired of the project and strapped for cash, he spoke rather poetically about the car and warned that his price his non-negotiable. He's about 90-minutes away, but I wanted to see at least one picture before I drove out. Maybe I'll call him back.

The New Haven car is a hardtop.

I'll take a hard look at the black vert, it's about an hour away... maybe try to get out there later in the week. Price seems a bit ambitious, no?

The black one may be a 442, if legit and solid and straight the price is not too bad.

It is a 442, so I guess the 442 is out of my ballpark. Like I said, I know very little about what to expect with this breed... ask me anything about Westmoreland VW GTI's though!

I'll definitely call him and take a look... too close to ignore.

It is listed as a 442 but clones are common and for that kind of cash it should be proven that is real.

True dat.

I just got off the phone with the Long Island guy. He said he's been busy looking at colleges with his daughter and that he'd try to get some pictures by early next week.

We talked about the car some more. It's got a new top and interior, and he described the trunk and rear quarters as "concourse", but he revealed that there's some rot in the front quarters by the rockers, the transmission was resealed but still leaks out when it sits for long periods, and the motor smokes a bit.

It's starting to sound like a $5K car to me....

http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/ctd/3697265821.html
This 1's a little pricey:

http://newhaven.craigslist.org/ctd/3715895929.html

Another '67 in CT:

There's also an older ad on 442.com, not sure if it's still for sale:

1/6/2013 1966 cutlass convertible original 4-speed car. rebuilt 68 442 400 motor. new legendary interior. door panels very nice original. disc brakes. only 1000 miles put on car since rebuild. new body mounts, suspension parts, rechromed bumpers, new top, soft seal kit, exhaust, tires. has original side-mount tach. more new parts. call for details and more pics. ken kenamy442@aol.com 412-610-1530irwin pa

I'm done now. Happy hunting!

Thanks AGAIN for all the legwork, guys. I am humbled.

See that white one in the first ad? I saw it last month. See those white panels in the trunk? Let's just say they're in place for good reason.

Couldn't say.

Five engine bay pics, two 20' body shots, no interior shots, but ladder bars included. Not hating, but it looks like more of a burnout car than what I'm in the market for.

I just sent an offer on the white 442 knock off - $12K. It looks nice in pics but has some body issues and still needs quite a bit of sorting, so I think it's a fair price even though it's a lowball against what he wants for it.

Locating them is the fun/easy part. The real "legwork" lies in dealing with the sellers ("Yeah, we decided to weld some corrugated aluminum panels into the trunk for a cool look, not to cover 6lbs of Bondo or anything")
<Not that I know that's what is behind the panels, it's just a little odd/suspicious>

Your offer will likely be shunned but I think it's reasonable for a Faux-4-2 in that condition. Good luck!

So, you DO know that car?? Seriously, those panels (upholstered cardboard, by the way) pop right out to reveal rivets and open seams using metal that looks like it was cut off the side of a Craftsman shed. Almost no attempt was made to hide the gruesome patchwork on the inside. I can't imagine how much filler it took to get it smoothed on the outside. I think that car loses 15 pounds the first time it hits a speed bump.

He countered quickly with $13,500. I realized at that point I had started too high... should have said $10K. I'm passing on the "Faux" 4-2 ()... the work needed is over my head, and only God knows what other horrors lie within.

There's a few bigger shows coming up where cars will be for sale (1 is an Oldsmobile show, in Merrick, NY). I'll keep my eyes open.

Hi,I am in the process of a recent purchase of a 67 442 convertible.I bought this car to restore and sell.I would be willing to do a quick flip though without doing any or partial resto work. This is a true 442 [5vy] car. Also has the v code on the cyl. head. This car looks to be all original # match car.It is gold with black interior,4 speed,a.c. car.The car is mostly disassembled. The engine is still together and ran when pulled. If interested, please e-mail at TAA442@aol.com or call 330-618-3178 Ohio with any other questions regarding the car. Thanks,Tim

Thanks but I'm looking for a complete(d) car, not a project or major job. My days of renting engine hoists are long gone!

I'm checking out two cars this weekend; a '67 CS rag '74 Eldorado rag. Both could be contenders. That 442 looks interesting, might call.

If this NJ white 66 was a 442 it is now missing some key elements such as 442 tailights, 442 vented fenders and some side trim. And he says the 400 is gone. I am not sure that 5V on the trim tag absolutely designates a 442 in 1966?
