WTB: 1962 StarFire w/ AC

Hi all,

Would love to find a 1962 Starfire in Cirrus Blue (open to other colors). Needs to have A/C. Driver quality or above. Maybe a long shot but this forum is pretty active. Thanks so much for your help!

There's lots for sale online right now. Mostly dealers. Don't know if you are looking for convertible, or hardtop, but there are both out there. You'll probably have to add the A/C. Besides scrounging to get all the factory A/C parts, there are also aftermarket kits available.

Thanks - I'm a purist so it has to be factory A/C. There is one on ebay right now with factory A/C. Looks like it needs motor work as the oil light is on. They also spray bombed the engine compartment. So obnoxious. Body and trim look great I must say. Tempting but I'd rather not spend $5k rebuilding a motor right now.

I totally understand the purist thing. I am too. I would dig forever for all the factory parts. I guess the eBay car must be sold because I couldn't find it today.

If you find a southern car it will have AC.

I think part of the problem with finding a vintage car with factory air is, the systems weren't that reliable, they're hard to fix and expensive to fix, so over the years, many cars that came equipped with A/C have long since had all of it removed and all those parts thrown away because it's just dead weight and in the way.

I would have to disagree with part of your statement. The systems back in the day were very reliable and worked damn good. I had a 65 Grand Prix that had the best air conditioner of any of the cars I have ever owned. It literally got cold. In the years I owned the car I never did anything to it and it was 3 years old when I bought it. Now, granted they are expensive to fix today. I think more of them were torn out of Cutlasses and cars like Chevelles than Starfires.

I called about the Alabama car. It sounded perfect, light blue with a white top. Owner describes it as being in very nice condition. Surprisingly, even though it is a southern car, it does not have factory A/C. I just recently started looking so for now I'm holding out for what I really want.

Thanks for all the tips and comments guys!

It is too bad this wasn't about a year ago. One of our members in our club sold a 62 Starfire hardtop that he had owned for 41 years. It was a very nice car with mostly original paint being white with a blue top. Other than some cracks in the padded dash there was nothing wrong with it. If I had a place to put it I would have bought it. I won't say what he sold it for but it was a bargain. I believe a dealer in Wisconsin bought it and sold it to a buyer in Houston. It did have air. I love 62 Starfires.
